That's not really true anymore. The MUDlib is still really annoying to work around, but it's a lot more flexible than it used to be. Even with access to the GServer or MUDlib code, he couldn't do a whole lot. The MUDlib needs to be completely redesigned and rewritten.
The issue is more of enthusiasm for me (Tig is just really busy last I heard from him). It's not fun scripting when you're forced to work with old scripts and implement everything by hacking on to existing systems (it's also not sustainable scripting).
I think this is one of the main problems with volunteer help. Making stuff is fun, but often times you get caught up in the boring stuff and grind to a halt (this happened on Era Dev when I was doing all the scripting as well).
