Graal Online is a figurehead for QuattroPlay on the PC. It's the best working-example of the game engine on the PC platform.

So if anyone were to buy rights to QuatroPlay... whatever, would they have to host servers online just to use GS2/full potential of a game engine? It doesn't sound like much of an engine if you can't even develop offline games.

The engine would, most likely, be licensed to design businesses. They would, very likely, have a LAN from which it would be hosted.

In case you're just tuning in, they're not advertising at all.

And the end result though? They still wouldn't be able to develop any offline games to distribute.

I don't think there's really any reason to believe it's limited to only online gameplay?

It uses GS2. If they somehow had GS2 running offline, why wouldn't they bring it over to Graal? Their demo videos show them using scripted tools, most likely online, it doesn't look very hopeful.

I imagine it would be very easy to incorporate a pseudo-gServer and a pseudo-npcServer into a executable game. How easy it may be to fit into each game client, and how secure... I am not so sure of.

Well I hope if it was that easy it'd have been done for us a long time ago.

in case you've only just started reading this thread, the discussion was going into using the iphone as an advertisement opportunity to grow the community: my question lies in whether or not that advertising would be for PC graal or the iphone application

There's no actual advertising; what is being discussed is the interest the iPhone may naturally incur; not the intentional advertisement of graal. That sort of advertising would take whatever path which may be most natural on average - there's no way to accurately determine where that paths leads right now.

so hot how when graal is treated like a development platform it fails but when its treated like a game it succeeds

That's a pretty good observation, although I am hesitant to accept it as fact.
