Voice Chat?

I believe I heard that voice chat was removed because the codec was awful. When was that? If I recall correctly, Graal also attempted 3D graphics to a degree which was for an mmo was waaaaaay before it's time that such a thing would be viable. What I'm basically trying to say is, isn't it worth a try using a modern codec and seeing if it is any better quality than the original one? Sure we have Skype, Discord and Teamspeak or whatever. (RIP Razer Comms) But hey, maybe native voice chat could be cool, we could do more with something built into the client after all. Unless someone wants to take on trying to integrate Discord into a server so you could do things like have players be able to hear each other's public voice chat when they're next to each other but not from across an entire gmap.
