Post Mac: Finding your Graal folder

A quite frequent problem that people have when playing Graal on Mac is that they can't find the folder where their files are being stored, such as heads, bodies, tilesets, and for developers, scriptfiles. Normally regardless of where you install Graal, downloaded files will be stored inside a user-specific, but hidden, folder.

In order to locate this folder:

1. Focus on Finder by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, or clicking on the desktop.

2. Select the "Go to Folder..." option in the "Go" menu.

3. Enter the following into the box: "~/Library/Application Support/Graal/", and press OK.

4. Voila; here is where Graal stores downloaded files (inside the levels/ folder), settings and other files.

Folders starting with . (for example, .graal) are hidden folders on Mac OS X. You can't navigate to them the normal way.

You must be trying to start another Mac vs. PC.
Anyhow, I don't see how its any different from Windows in that aspect. A lot of times I do Start -> Run -> "C:\Graal\Graal2005" to get to Graal folder or other folders on my comp since I type fast.

Well, the difference is that your folder won't be hidden unless you hide it yourself. Your local Graal settings folder on Mac is hidden by default and thus, people don't know where to find it.

Yes I know this, but I was referring to the steps required to access it. 2 Clicks, type in some text, and hit enter, same as Windows.

Why do they use a .graal folder anyway?
I renamed it, but I'm willing to bet that's a bad idea.
Just another incompatibility I don't want to have to deal with. (With Graal, that is)

It's quite a UNIX-styled thing. If you simply rename the folder, then you'll just have moved the files and you'll get another .graal folder created when you next start the program.

I guess if you want to move it to your user's Library folder, open up Terminal and do the following:
HTML Code:
mkdir ~/Library/Graal
mv ~/.graal/graal4/* ~/Library/Graal/
rm -rf ~/.graal/graal4
ln -s ~/Library/Graal ~/.graal/graal4

[Edit: That didn't require messing around in the registry]
