I sent a ticket in about this very thing back in July.
My idea for how digging can become better as you level was this:
To make it analogous to mining levels the bonuses would be split into two types.
the kind you get a little bit of every level (i.e. mining faster) and the kind you get every few levels (i.e. putting more rocks in the grinder at once).
Every level, you would have a smaller chance of finding nothing.
Every 5 Levels, you would have a smaller chance of finding trochuses, and therefore a greater chance of finding sand dollars, aerolatas, and scallops.
At level 20 you have a small chance of finding multiple shells with each dig, and additional chance added onto that every 20 levels.

On top of digging levels, there could be new shovels that could be bought, or obtained through quests or crafting, etc.
my ideas for new shovels:

1. Auto-Dig Shovel
digs automatically when you hold d, rather than having to keep pressing it.
it would also have more freeze than the normal shovel.
So digging would be less effort, but it would take longer.

2. Rare Shell-Finding Shovel
finds a whole new set of shells that are double the value of the current shells
but would also have a 50% chance of finding nothing.

3. Less Freeze Shovel
Digs faster
but only finds trochuses

4.Double Experience Shovel
gives you double experience toward digging levels
Breaks twice as fast as a normal shovel, regardless of worker potion.
costs 20x as much to repair. ($200)

5. Auto-pickup Shovel
Automatically adds found shells to your inventory
can't find sand dollars

boom

Okaaay so

1. Macro central.
2.Double money + 1/2 drop rate = no net profit (confused as to why this is needed, just seems arbitrary)
4. 200$ is nothing, seems unfair to drop double exp for that.

the others are great though
