here are a list of things you should have checked or unchecked in the f3 option tabs:
video
use bitmap fonts (checked)
use a minimum of video resources (unchecked)
wait for vertical bank (unchecked)
start in fullscreen (personally unchecked)
bitdepth (32)
font (i like arial)
size (12) - lower the font the less textual-lag you'll have
lights/weather/particles (unchecked)
3D
nothing to mess with here
capture
won't change your lag unless you're taking a video, so nothing to mess with here
audio
personally have had all audio off for years, but really, nothing to mess with here
micro
no one wants to hear you speak through graal anyways so don't touch anything in here
controls
nothing to mess with here
general (aside from language)
automapping (checked)
ignore toalls (unchecked)
use filename cache (checked)
use fixed port for UDP (checked, set to 14899)
don't use UDP for data packages (unchecked)
don't load head icons for the playerlist/map (checked) - unchecked won't really help you reduce lag that much
limit the length of nicknames to (checked, personally set to 50)
only show one level (unchecked on overworld, checked when inside)
