They show their higher rank by having power over our posts, and infractions. They don't also need reputation power. The problem is though, reputation is something we all have access to, but moderators have stronger influence on... which they didn't earn. They were given it, because they earned it from Unix. That's the problem, we all 'work' to earn our reputation from the masses and they are given it from a single.
Also, Darlene has stated that she tries not to rep at all because of the way moderators rep. This shows that it's limiting the moderators in their 'normal' actions.
