CTF. Nough Said.

Well well well. Now that Classic is off the server list, it seems that nearly all activity on the server has stopped. Whether you agree with the decision or not, it's already happened.

Regardless, there is one (and only one) aspect of Classic that I think most of us miss: CTF.

This isn't a guarantee, nor have all the details been finalized. But basically, would anyone be interested in a monthly (or weekly or bi-weekly, haven't decided yet) CTF Madness?

Basically one (or more) saturday each month, starting around 5 pm US East (subject to change,) several CTFs will be hosted in a row for the enjoyment of everyone online.

Right now the GC team is fairly limited in numbers as several people have disappeared, and our admin has retired. We'll find a way to deal with that if this plan comes to fruition. As for tickets, I suppose we can still give them out for these ctfs.

Do recall that this is not guaranteed and that all details need to be worked out still, but would anyone be interested in a CTF Madness night(s) each month?

ya i love ctf

Erm...

It seems there is going to be a "server wipe" within a few days so perhaps this idea will be tougher to implement in the near future. I guess it depends when they can get the event scripts back up. Regardless, the question still stands.

Yeah. I'd love to do this too, but development needs to start soon.

papajchris 07-25-2009 06:46 PM

I'd do join in if i didn't have to have gold

Rufus 07-25-2009 07:35 PM

I'd come on and play for sure, last night was fun.

Crimson2005 07-25-2009 09:02 PM

I'd play but development staff shouldn't be allowed to play the games. No time for them to be messing about in events when the server is on its arse :)

Rufus pretty much summed it up.

Considering that a league essentially requires the same X people each and every time, it is especially difficult to ensure that all X people will be on each and every time. Not only that, it is difficult to keep them motivated throughout, especially if the team is doing badly.

So rather than trying to rely on the same X people to show up and give it their all each and every time, I personally feel that just having a large 'open door' ctf event would be easier and more likely to survive in the long term (aka not fizzle out after 2 weeks like a league is prone to do.)

That's just an excuse for your failed leagues rofl.

But I won't try to argue about it.

Actually it is not just an excuse. A league is far less casual than what he is proposing, and as the server isn't even on one of the main playerworld categories it would be fruitless to even attempt something that requires dedication. People have struggled to get a league going when the server was public and actually had active players, how do you propose it's going to be any different now? It's probably going to be worse in fact, therefore casual 'open' playing is the most suitable, being less reliant on a certain set of players and more on anyone turning up to play. Additionally, why would anyone try to set up a league for something that isn't being done on a regular basis? The server is down, nobody plays on its hit detection, nobody has the ability to play CTF in order to practice or even know who is good anymore. Perhaps you should focus on how to make his proposal better (as there's a good reception for something like this and it takes a lot less, evidently) rather than just criticizing past attempts he's made at something entirely different.

I don't think there should be any expectation for a league besides failure on Graal, so I don't see why it's somehow funny to you.

The majority of players are kids who do not have complete control of what they'll be doing at any given time.

Nisube 07-26-2009 02:37 AM

Yayyy CTF! :p
