Disconnected because you didn't move

Hi,

I think this should be removed, it just brings down the playercount of some servers, making players not even log on in the first place.

Why not let the players just idle? Maybe then more people would be attracted to leave the Login server, even if it's just for idling.

oo_jazz_oo 06-15-2009 09:18 AM

Well, thats up to the individual servers really....obviously they dont want you idling...which is stupid anyways, because you know 70% of the playercount usually idles anyways...

But, its not like the servers are being forced to have it...

I don't see how you can use the argument that people not being allowed to idle on servers that have "Disconnect" enabled is the reason why the player count has dropped. If someone logs on and walks away from the computer for the next 10 hours, they might as well NOT be part of the player count. They're just a number in a statistic that is severely unbalanced in accuracy when trying to find out the statistic of how many people DO play.

I didn't say the player count dropped because of that, I said players don't log on servers because of that, example:

I go to my PC, log on Era and take a look at the player count:

"Damn, only 12 players, sucks!"

I log out again, because I know that I'll get disconnected anyways after 15 minutes, if I idle.

Now if I could just idle as much as I wanted, I'd stay logged in and idle. Eventually 3, 5, 10 even 20? other people would do the same. Seeing as the player count raises everyone starts playing...

Whether it was or wasn't meant to imply that the player count was down because of it, it's certainly doesn't change the rest of what I said. You logging on, seeing only 12 people, then logging off just means you're not going to play. Getting on, seeing 12 people, then leaving it idle does not improve the statistic in the slightest, nor raise it beyond what would then become an inaccurate statistic of an active player count at all.

As stated above, it's not like it can't be disabled/enabled in the first place, and 9 times out of 10, servers just prefer people did not idle around when every person on their server is partially their responsibility and just idling there in itself can become a concern.

Why would you want to log onto a server that only has idle players? Perhaps your server should be looking at how to retain players with its content.

it's not that hard to press a button every hour, and you can just log back on later, or, do something else in game while you wait for people to get on.

That'd odd, I was pretty certain your main account was banned for life on Era, as well as your other account (ban evasion).

Perhaps we'll have to start checking some things more closely ;)

Sometimes I find it annoying. I'll be writing a reply or two on a forum and when I check back to Graal, I find the "You have been disconnected" message. Sometimes I am idling just to get a PM back from a staff member or whatnot, being disconnected is very frustrating when that is the case.

On the flip side, Classic already has a huge problem with players idling (staff members and RCs inparticular). When you log into a server that has 15 people online, you'd expect atleast half to be responsive. Not on Classic. Disabling the auto disconnect would just make it worse. Players would see a server with 20-30 people online only to find that the majority of the server is 'AFK' forever. They'd leave and never come back.

This sounds familiar.

To be honest the "Disconnected because you didn't move" is fine.... it lasts a lot of time... sometimes even enough to eat and comeback to play.

There are other games that disconnects you if you dont move for like 40 secs so...o.o

Only time it's a problem is when you're a developer :/

Yeah, when you're busy with anything and someone pms you and you have no time and you get disconnected, you wouldn't know who it was :O

hi,

discussing bans on the forums is illegal, apperentially you haven't read the forum rules, now, have you?

oh and:

For the dumber ones under us ;)

Oh and how about editing that time? Making it longer?

papajchris 06-15-2009 08:03 PM

I don't like the fact that even if you are answering pms, you will still get d/c for not moving. There are times when i would be answerign pm after pm and then get d/c and lose all the replies >:(

cbk1994 06-15-2009 09:32 PM

RC staff have more than the normal 15 minutes, I think. It's something like 30 minutes, though that can still be annoying, since I don't tend to move when I'm scripting.
