Server names
 

My friend and I were talking about Zodiac today and the reason zodiac is named "Zodiac" came into our conversation. Well as all of you do not know, my friend came up with the server name Zodiac, but I never new where he got it from, simply that he told me it, and we went with it. But i was on UN today with this friend and I see this guy named Zodiac. So i ask my friend, is this how you got our server name? And he said yes. So i guess he copied the guys named. I bet he feels pretty cool, having a server named after him lol..


But anyways, the point of this thread is, where did the other server names come from? I always wonder about the little and un needed things and this would be one of those things.

Does anyone know why the server Era is named Era, or why the server N-Pulse is named N-Pulse? If you know why any of the servers once in Gold/Classic/Hosted list or are there now got their name, please post the reasons!

Pirat named the server Atlantis because he liked the history of it :-)!

I think Era was named Era as a play on the fact that it was a new Era of classic. Modern tiles, modern weapons, all that stuff.

Graal Kingdoms got its name because it's a Graal server with Kingdoms.

Most servers with a story as a guideline will have the name just randomly thought of, like Valikorlia, Maloria, but sometimes it kinda describes the server, like Doomsday was a very specific gameplay element initially thought of for Doomsday, but never put in the game, I believe.

You didn't really bring it up, but..

I don't know if it was in mind when Unholy Nation was created. It turned out to be a pretty good name, based on what goes on publicly on the server.. Flame wars in masses go on every hour, without fail. I've never seen the behavior UNers have on any other Graal server I've played on casually.

I believe it because the server would shift through time periods or "eras". Starting with modern, medieval and futuristic. I believe medieval was next but never happened.

UN isn't that unique, it's the same as the other two big servers really.

I never really thought about the origin of server names. the private servers have some pretty weird ones compared to classic servers though.

I've never experienced a constant flaming in masses on any of the other servers. Maybe I've just never played them long enough.

the only other server i've experienced a mass flaming war was gk, back when gk actually had a playercount over 20, and it was like, a wanna-be mass fight.

It's a constant issue on UN.. Like I said, it's irrelevant when you log on that you'll experience it.

I don't quite remember that. I remember I was on the city project that I was a part of... nothing mentioned every about different time periods.

it's not really that big of an issue, i don't see how it's an issue at all. most of us love it, it's what we do when we're idling. it's like UN's catch phrase, except in massing form?

I'm pretty sure there are some good names around graal, but there are some weird ones too o_O !

I was working on it as gfx (then later levels) admin then, chrisz was manager at the time with angel and he was leading the project. Maybe angel might know something.

I worked there when there were three managers :o Or maybe two... I don't remember.

I remember seeing screenshots of the first Era. either it was delph or dell, or maybe that's the same person? not sure. it was back on the first era forums and he posted screenshots. it was in a classic tileset and everything. weird!

I am going to necropost ITT again just to point out that Delteria is far and away the home and champion of the mass flame wars. Nothing I've ever seen on UN even comes close to Delteria.

Nah I can vouch for Streety but I wouldn't really say some of the flame wars nowadays are cool.

UN's masses consist of stickam links and 16 year old girls making it look okay to be obnoxious. Them being "oh im so trendy and clever" in turn makes it look okay for everyone else to masses their every whim. That in turn makes the "flame wars". But they're not fun, they're just people *****ing about nothing like "lol ur so stupid eliz" and "a but i still luv u". They hurt to read.

My server Darkness got it's name from a main plot element which is always referred to as "The Darkness", Simply because it's evil and unknown. :D
