Serverlist Events News

It has got to a point where the serverlist events news is all about hirings on playerworlds, and personally I don't really think it's appropriate. I've played quite a few games that display news on startup, but in every single one of them, the news is actually something that players are interested in. I'm not saying that some players will not be interested in generic hiring listings for miscellaneous playerworlds, but I'd prefer to see actual game news and actual server updates.

A future improvement suggestion would be to encourage classic servers to start publishing news and events pertaining to their servers, but more importantly stop posting hirings for servers as Graal is already suffering from how easily jobs are thrown at people. I guess "development news" could have it's own tab beside "events news" if it's really that important, but either way the news should be reserved for real news.

yeah... the whole front page, aside from updates that were put up by Stefan, are something about dev servers needing staff.

xXziroXx 10-05-2008 04:21 PM

Blame server staff for not putting up things that's happening on their server.

EDIT: From what I recall, Zodiac's serveroptions have a huge text from Stefan telling them to post news on the Wiki, which I don't think they ever have.

Why blame server staff? The wiki is still locked to subscribers. I'm not going to subscribe just to post some news on the wiki o.O

Because it's their responsibility to inform Graalians about the events going on on their own server.

You positive? Fairly sure it was made for one-time subscribers at the same time the forums were.

No, it wasn't.

More than half of Zodiac players have gold accounts, I don't know how they cannot find a staff with access to the wiki x-x I often see updates on servers but no one posts them on the wiki, quite weird.
The problem with giving Wiki access is not about "paying", it's more to avoid spamming/flooding by old revived classic accounts, which happened in the past.

People are just too lazy to post on the wiki I suppose. Perhaps if the RC was open source a news manager could be included that would allow management of both in-game and out-of-game news.

DarkReaper0 10-05-2008 08:11 PM

Well stefan, how about once a week (or every two weeks) you check serveroptions and give wiki access to everyone with RC?

Of course this might backfire for UnholyNation since they give out RC's like halloween candy (I'm looking at you, Uploader Admin).

Graal isnt really losing by the way this is they are actually winning, playerworlds cost money, and so do gold accounts to work on them its win win for them.

knightfire35 10-05-2008 10:23 PM

Some servers have their own websites with news. I agree though.

It costs money to host servers.

Perhaps they need a reminder.

Anyone notice how all the hirings on the event news features players sitting on a chair and in one way or another welcoming the player to come try it out?

CharlieM 10-05-2008 11:46 PM

I didnt notice it until you said it, I know servers require money to host, but they are making money off of you paying them
