What's more important to you?
Catering to others or catering to yourself?
I'm talking about with style. I, personally, like my levels to look very Classic-esque. No, I don't mean classic cliffing and tile errors, I mean simple detailing, simple houses. I tend to get a lot of slack about this, though. People tell me that it's way too simple and it usually ends up with me getting negative reactions... but on the other hand I love the style so I don't see myself changing anytime soon. It's not because I can't take a critique, it's simply because I find the 'newer' direction of levels very ugly, personally... so I find it hard to make a level I know looks ugly to myself. So, do you style to please yourself, or do you style to make others happy? |
I level to please myself. I know my levels arnt up to Gerami Standards, but still I try and I think my levels are pretty decent :)
|
What can I say? I aim to please. I'm pretty hard on myself though, so usually what makes other happy makes me happy too.
|
Both I s'pose; if I'm working on an overworld I try to add so many different styles!
|
You would want to make those others happy who know to appreciate your style.
|
If my style was just to please myself, I'd making the same crappy levels I did back in 2003 when I first started to post levels here. I'm a pretty big ***** to the people, I always set my standards too high for myself to reach and basically shape what I do to what everyone likes. Of course some opinions are more equal than others.

Both, but there is no option for that

It doesn't hurt to listen to criticism, but you should still keep your own style in mind.
I'd say make yourself happy if it's just a hobby, but if you're looking to be a srs LAT, you have to listen to other peoples critique, and work off of it. |
I'm making levels for both others and myself.
If for example a Manager wants the level in a specific way, then i'll do it, but with a little bit of my touch. So we both get happy! I think you always need to be open for suggestions and criticism to be able to get better. If I would have been stubborn, i'd probably not be as good as im today. |
