Moderators and Rep
Should moderators be able to give out negative rep? I mean, a certain moderator is the #1 reason I'm in the red, having contributed over -20 points to my score. Just because a post of mine doesn't break the rules, but may throw some into question, this person gives me neg rep.
I'll probably get another whopping -10 (or more) points from this person for this post. Anyone else think this is unfair, since moderators can remove rep, and therefore have a high rep, as well as high rep powers, even if they should have negrep because most of their actions are disliked by the community? What are your thoughts on the matter of moderators abusing their high rep abilities? |
There is no reason a moderator should give/take more rep than anyone else.
We all have to work to earn an influence over reputation, and they should too. |
I don't really care much for the reputation system. All my negative rep points came from a certain someone who felt insulted by posts that weren't meant to insult.
Anyways, if moderators have powers to modify reputation, then it also seems fair if they are exempt from receiving/giving reputation. |
In a perfect world, they'd have the same rep. abilities as a player. But, they're moderators and, despite what you might think, they were given their abilities for a good reason. I don't see the problem with it, personally. I've received 20 positive rep point from a moderator for making a logical statement in a sea of ranting teenagers. Then, I received (negative, yet) neutral rep from a player for posting my opinion on how to fix Era's economic troubles. Judging from that, moderators are more responsible with giving rep. than regular players.

Only reason I think they should be able to receive and not give is so their moderation could be rated, but having no rep taking or giving abilities would be good as well, as it prevents abuse and mods with really low rep.

Ya, you don't mind because you get positive rep from them. Many of us tend to not kiss their ass, and get on their bad sides regardless of not being rude and such. We just have different mindsets. I don't think I should lose 10 points from a mod just because they think I said something they don't agree with. Perhaps they are more responsible, but it would just be more fair if they were treated like every other member.

Say goodbye to that second green bar. :p |

Also, I'm not kissing anybody's ass. I know what it's like to be in Darlene's position, so I'm empathetic.I've been a Darlene on the Valikorlia forums (luckily, there's more than one on those forums, though :p). A lot of the things that get thrown her way are unnecessary. |

Aren't moderators also players? I play, but I am also the moderator in one forum. Does that mean that I shouldn't be able to give reputation just because I enforce the rules? I should be allowed to give reputation regardless of whether or not you think I'm doing my job. Just because you don't like how a certain moderator does their job doesn't mean that you should be able to give them negative reputation and they can't return the favor. I don't think moderators reputation should give/remove as much reputation as it does. I'm not sucking up, I'm just saying it from my perspective. |
Its possible to alter the board settings so Mods and Admins have the same rep value has any other person.

Also, Darlene has stated that she tries not to rep at all because of the way moderators rep. This shows that it's limiting the moderators in their 'normal' actions. |
You probably absolutely deserved the negative rep

Put it this way, I have -26 right now. A mod's base value is 10, so that would contribute most of my negative rep to her. |

But now that you quoted it, it's like I posted twice! Almost giving it double the attention! |
