Spar Rank Badges

Ok, so UN is working on a new spar system I made the badges, just thought I'd show them here =]
It's working on a tier system, for example Amateur-1.
Each rank has 4 levels, the top level badge contains a blue stone and there is a gradual change in the badge image.
Except for Elite, which is only one badge.

Nice, something to work for on UN :o

Bah, I think they will probably make a custom board with top players etc by category, since they don't have custom profiles like Zone ;o

The stone looks fine, but the shading on the gold(?) I don't like, in particular the diagonal shine on the face of it.

Only way I could think of to shade them so they looked shiny, yet metallic. So they had kind of a lip on them.
Any suggestions you could make to improve that?

@ Chompy: I think there is going to be a separate GUI window which you can open to view spar stats. which will show current rank, current rank level, spar points and various other info along with a picture of the badge.
They are also going on some sort of website I got told.

Kirble...Sorry but I dont like it. It doesnt look AT ALL like a badge or medal or anything like it. Show me a screenshot of it being used in game and I'll judge again.

Chompy 01-05-2008 08:48 PM

Hmm, I just saw it now, there's many 'shines' on each badge, could be less 'shine' lines or even animated ;o

Think of it like a medal more than a badge. Somewhat like the rank badges they have in the army.

So you would sow it onto something? Would make more sense...
I do like the final blue one though.
Just... why the shattered look?

You could decrease the number of shines across the left and right badges, the center badge is alright. I think toning down the contrast between the shines and the actual badge on all of them would help greatly also, when I first looked at it my initial thought was that the shines were indentations.

Those are sexy. Nice work.

Although, since the metal is kind of bland, I think you should concentrate on making the stones the center of attention. Make them shinier, I suppose.

I love the design of every single one, although I think it needs a darker outline. The outline to me looks like you were making it from the center going out and suddenly stopped.
