After watching a few videos on PS3's new "Home" feature, I was inspired. I know this same general idea was proposed in the past, but I want to reinforce it.

GraAxis (A combo of "Graal" and "Axis". Just an idea on a name) would be a place where ALL players will be able to hang out in a relaxed center where the only goal is to encourage socialization and community in a noncompetitive environment. This means that there is no pressure to be spending countless hours leveling your character to be on the top of the charts. All players in GraAxis would be given their own space to customize and put in furniture, posters, games and other interactive objects.

Around the town in GraAxis, players will be able to shop for objects to put into their home, relax at a lounge, or do other activities such as skateboard on the streets or even play a round of mini golf. To get people to branch off from GraAxis, some of the mini games located around the town will directly connect you to the Skill Games server. For instance, if you sit down at a poker table in GraAxis, you will be connected to the cardgames section of the Skill Games server. As for other servers such as Graal Kingdoms, Unholy Nation and N-Pulse, billboards will be setup around the town with a picture, playercount and short description of the server advertising for people to connect. The player will be able to double click these boards and directly connect to the advertised server. Another way to connect to servers is through the "Q-menu" which will be changed into a revamped serverlist.

Other things such as resturants, movie theaters, player-owned shops and skateparks could also be included. But as of now, I do not have an idea how players could earn money to use at shops. If you have any ideas on this, please post it.

Finally, there could be an option to turn off a direct connection to GraAxis and instead open the original serverlist.

I just read fast through it.. btw two a's in norway is å

I believe Tyhm has suggested something similar dubbed a "hub world" multiple times, but has been shot down.

To be honest, while good in theory, if players come for socialization, they'll get socialization. They don't need a specialized server for this because most of the time sitting in a no-pk zone with lots of friends or other people is just the same. Not only that, but they get to sit on an "active server"(note the quotes), where if they choose to suddenly get up and PK, or do something, they can.

I think what you're looking for, sad to say, is already up on UN. I dunno about skateparks and all that, but they've got all the other stuff, as well as lots of other pointless gadgets just for simple entertainment.

EDIT: Though, I have to say... the difference between Tyhm's idea, and your idea, is that yours could pass off as a server. You're basically describing a simple server with ideas such as housing, skateparks and such. If you really, really want this idea to go through, the best way would be to make the server yourself.

TalonShriner 09-16-2007 02:12 AM

Actually Dusty, I think that we should have a specialized server for socialization because, if you think about it, most servers are competitive ones where oldbies rule and noobs are beaten and abused. It is unlikely that an oldbie would help out a noob. In this Axis world, all players would be on the same "level" and there would be no separation between rank or power. And without the distraction of mindless killing and greed, players would get to know people better as people and not as something like "Gerald The Iron Defender of Arcallion (Noobkillers Guild)". It would bring a better sense of community within Graal that UN or even the forums can't achieve.

DustyPorViva 09-16-2007 02:19 AM

Servers like N-pulse provide that, and it doesn't make a difference.
Like I said, this is itself seems like an idea for a server, just with a different direction that most servers take. The best way to get your idea to come true is to do it yourself, as I highly doubt they're going to consider this anymore than the hub world, as it seems they don't have interest in it.

ANIMAL CROSSING?!

DEAR LORD, COULD WORK OUT!

If it isn't made horribly...

Pimmeh 09-16-2007 05:03 PM

MMORPG Farm game (CoughHARVESTMOONcough) would rule.
Not sure why that came to my mind but...I would play it!

TalonShriner 09-16-2007 07:13 PM

Animal Crossing? Sure. Harvest Moon? Why not? Both great games that I think would be fun to put into an MMO format. :) Maybe you could earn money by Farming, Cooking, Foraging, Treasure Hunting, Creating your own items, etc.

I think it would really depend on how well you executed the idea, as to whether or not it would work. Games like Furcadia, where the sole things you can do are games, socialization, and customization, have a decent fanbase. Graal's fanbase on the other hand, has diminished greatly. I know a big part is due to pointless PW's being on the main list where you get PK'd constantly, within seconds of logging on. It's very non newbie friendly, and something like you suggested might better ease players into Graal, and the idea of exploring other servers. I say go for it - if you get things running I'd be more than happy to frequent the PW :)

Stefan *nudge nudge wink wink*... *nudge*...

DustyPorViva 09-16-2007 08:17 PM

Oh, I just noticed the "non newbie friendly" part.
Let me account my first steps on Graal:
Oh... this is nice, Zelda never let you get in the beds... ooo wow, look at all the people, online Zelda is awesome!!! Ha! I can hide underneath the vases!
*walks outside brother's house*
*killed*
"haha, n00b!"

If you don't get the idea, Graal was never "newbie friendly," so that hasn't diminished. Just like it is now, you have to find some people willing to help you.

... and that's what this Axis server would be for. It would bring more people together in a non competitive world. It would be an environment where people can find others with the same interests online.

TalonShriner 09-18-2007 04:08 AM

Sorry for the double post.

What do you think about this idea? Would you like to see this in future Graal versions?

cyan3 09-18-2007 08:50 AM

I just read quickly through and i don't like the idea to turning a Graal server into Habbo Hotel.
