Getting rid of client lag—help?
Many players on Era are complaining to me that their clients lag on GMAPs, when there are many players in a level, when there are projectiles in a level, etc. It's not uncommon for them to have 10-15 FPS with only 10-20 players in a level.
Lots of players even say they have worse lag on v6. The only thing I can chalk this up to is compatibility issues, since I've never been able to reproduce any of this lag on a computer with worse specs than many people who have problems. I'm hoping someone has suggestions on how to fix this lag so that a list of possible fixes could be compiled. The only ones I've heard of are setting the processor affinity to one CPU, and running in XP compatibility mode. Do either of these actually help? Thanks for the suggestions. |
I had to disable visual themes and desktop composition on my laptop running Windows 7. My new desktop is awful though, nothing seems to work.

setting a static IP and getting UDP to work reduces lag by a lot. so does setting your computer to 16bit and putting graal on high priority with nothing else open
i've also heard that in some cases people lag less either when they go fullscreen or when they reduce how big their window is. i can't seem to see any correlation as to why either one works for any one person though |
I remember Era had some very slow scripts before, some weeks ago I was fixing some of them (-Nicknames.drawNPCNicks). Normally it should be fast enough now except some new things have been added.
