I read the Swamp Water thread yesterday and it made me want to continue working on my own swamptiles i made some time ago.
Thought i would post them here and see what you people think :)

Oh my god you are a god. I love those tiles. I've had ideas for a server in the back of my head, if I ever get a chance to use a server and get a team...I'd love those.

It's been a while, but i started working on these again.
The reeds didn't realy turn out the way i wanted, and i'm not sure how to improve them.
Anyone has any suggestions? :(

Wow nice work :) but I would even go as far and loosen some details and adjust the colors a little more to the official ones, or other way around!

Tim_Rocks 09-17-2012 11:14 PM

Really good work, I love the swamp. Keep it up!

Clockwork 09-18-2012 12:04 AM

I really like what you're doing so far :D Particullarly with the reeds/swamp grass/whatever it is o-o...

Make new grass, give the flower a better perspective, and throw in some AA :3

And maybe make the water a slight blue/purple? to get away from so much green.

smirt362 09-18-2012 05:20 AM

That's really good looking. I especially like the reeds. Think you should recolor the roots sticking out of the swamp to fit the new trees and maybe make them a little thicker.

your swamp stuff is legit. amazing.

the lotus flower feels a little out of place, maybe dull down the colors, also the bright green outlines. besides that the rest is money.

Kiwi27 09-18-2012 10:02 AM

Wow... that's beautiful stuff. :3.

Fulg0reSama 09-18-2012 10:59 AM

Swamp looks like a swamp an alligator could be truly proud of.

Crono 09-18-2012 02:36 PM

i think the tiles themselves are fine, it's the way it was LAT'd that makes it look a bit weird.

i'd put my lizardon in dat swamp

maximus_asinus 09-18-2012 03:18 PM

I bet you say that to all the ladies, Crono.

The level is just for testing the tileset so i didn't put much effort into lating it.

Changed the colour of the water and the treetops. Also made smaller changes to the reeds and made the roots thicker.

Flower still needs a new colour...

DustyPorViva 09-18-2012 06:57 PM

Awesome, but I'm not quite sure the water color needed to be changed. Swamps are monotonous and bland, and sometimes you gotta go against better judgement and do things wrong, and I think here the green monotone helped convey the tone of a swamp better. Not to mention the new colors are way too tropical.

I quite like the reeds you have, but they give me a WIP vibe, as if they're not finished. I think it's the lack of finer control over the black outline that makes it look a bit scribbly and contrasts wildly to the smooth finish of the tree. Your leaves(in the water) could also use some work as they have pretty poor clustering, and their shapes could be refined much better. The new flower has a much better perspective, but I feel it lacks the more appealing volume/shape of the old red leaves(where they seemed to kind of curve out of the center).

I messed around with a few things here:

Namely just some leaf shapes, fixing up the outline of the reeds a bit and I also felt having the black ascend in a gradient up the leaves as shadows is much more appealing than just cutting off at the bottom. It might also be worth looking into making the reeds a little bit shorter so the shadow doesn't just cut off(which was really bugging me). It might also be worth investing some tiles to properly shadow the bottom of the trees.

I also really don't like the brown stuff on the bottom-right, which I'm guessing are branches or something. You've improved a ton since you made them. Just get rid of them and try something new, maybe logs or just new branches sticking out. I just don't find them appealing at all and detract from the piece.

I don't know what you did under the treeroots but it looks great :O

Swamp Town.

Luda 09-21-2012 12:02 AM

You should use an additional tile or two for the center of taller grass(?) parts to give it some more character and look less flat/tiled.

Nice swamp, I think it fit's Graal perfectly.

Minoc 10-14-2012 08:29 PM

It looks quite nice, although I'm not sure what makes it "Classic style".

Jakov_the_Jakovasaur 05-26-2014 07:40 PM

hello!

was this swamp ever made public or does it require players to progress through the story first?
a place like this in a server would really feel like home for me, i would idle in that swamp!

thank you!
