there is this new thing called rounding.

salesman 06-04-2010 05:32 AM

It's not entirely accurate, and it only updates every 10 minutes. It says Era's highest count is like 170 when I specifically remember breaking 200 during the concert (when we released the instruments).

I recall it breaking 300 actually o_0. But maybe the counter or whatever excludes certain accounts like staff accounts or in this case pc using accounts or something. But yeah it does round.

210 according to the Gserver logs.

Well, let's be honest here: Does it really matter? Does this really warrant a thread, even? Whether it's Graal or Microsoft's Messenger client (or any other service), everybody rounds off. Just last month on Windows Live Messenger's Facebook page they reported that over 9 million users sent messages worldwide during a 24 hour period of recording statistics randomly. Does it really appeal to people any more or less if it were reported that only 8,522,074 people really did, not 9 million?

1400 or 1356, it really doesn't matter and displaying the number publicly needs to look rounded as it looks better than "1356".

That's because when they calculate the size of harddrives they calculate from that 1 Kilobyte is 1000 bytes when it's actually 1024.

And the statistics site is ran by a third party which makes it less reliable. It has went down a couple of times. And as stated before, the statistics bot doesn't check all the time as it doesn't have an active list of users, it needs to request the players from each server. And it would be stressful for the loginserver if it requested this every 30 seconds.

Yea, same reason why my 500 gigabyte hard drive is only 465 gigabytes which is 500,107,862,016 in bytes.

Offtopic ^.

Anyways. Since we've determined it's by technicality a lie but with an acceptable reason can we close this thread?

I think that has more to do with formatted capacity.

Isn't it because of the OS? Technically the harddrive IS 16GB for example, but with the OS on it there is just... less space? That's what I always thought.
