Editor Tool: Tree Generator

This is a pretty huge update in terms of level design and 100% should be posted here, but Dusty doesn't visit the site anymore. Go rep one of his old posts, it's the thought that counts!

Here, have a video:
It's kind of hard to look at levels and see people struggle to properly tile trees. Either they avoid it and don't tile them at all(and just place them randomly) or they compensate with tons of NPCs. I don't find either of those very suitable for solutions and would rather help new level designers out with a tool that will do all the hard work for them. All you have to do is click and drag. If you click on an already placed tree it will even "continue" to work off of that. It won't(hopefully) overwrite other trees that aren't in alignment, and will only attempt to place trees on proper grass. I tried to make it so the camera would follow as you placed(useful for gmaps) but since it's dependent on your mouse position, as the camera moved it kind of spazzed out and was a bit hard to control.

Instructions:
  1. Download the attachment
  2. Save it to: <Graal Folder>/levels/npcs/
  3. Go back to your <Graal Folder>. Find and delete filenamecache.txt. This is important.
  4. Open GraalEditor.exe, it might take a while to open as it generates a new cache.
  5. Click on the 'Predefined NPCs' tab and at the bottom navigate the Control-NPC dropdown and click TreeLayer.

As always, enjoy!

Dusty never ceases to impress me with the amount of work he puts in to help other people on Graal. Thanks for sharing.

This is great Dusty, there is not many users left who would give that much work into creating such a thing.

Wait... So is this being done with the classic editor?

No but the predefined objects http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...hp?t=134264286 are good enough.

Well that works ofcourse but I am sure something similar to this tool would be faster or possibly prevent mistakes from newer developers.

new developers will become better developers from learning from those mistakes.

the linked tool is to be used as an aid to help build and expand cliffs on a level, not do all the work for them.

The tree tool, however, is most useful, because linking / making patterns with trees is simple enough once you know where the tiles are, and is also tedious.

Great tool Dusty. Saw your sister-thread where you allowed ANY tree to be put in. :)
