[Question] Why did they switch...

Why did they switch from having
Account names ex "BlueMelon"
to Graal#?

I think they shouldv stayed with the account names.

Crono 07-06-2009 08:46 PM

They thought it would be better when it clearly isn't.

fowlplay4 07-06-2009 09:34 PM

I believe it stems from only having to enter your e-mail when registering, it could have been better had they not screwed us over with the sloppy implementation of it.

there's already a thread about this

Duh, they are brilliant.

The reasoning I remember hearing was trials were registering all the good account names and never even playing. Rather than let the trials change their account name, they made community names (since changing an account name would reset in many, many errors occurring on different servers).

It's a really stupid reason, and it's not worth getting a good community name if it costs you all the problems the community name system presents.

Trial accounts without ever having a subscription should just be deleted after x amount of inactivity.

Yep. That would be way better. And it was still not a problem. Stupid account names are better than this ****ty system.

That would still cause problems with some scripts, though. Imagine creating a new account and finding it jailed on Era by some crazy staff member for 5 years.

Hmm, that's an argument. How about a global event occuring on every server when an account is deleted? Sounds a tad stupid, but it might be possible, eh?

salesman 07-06-2009 11:39 PM

Yea, that would be a problem.

Better to just make people create salesman2 then instead. Anything's better than the current account system.

I wouldn't be opposed to something similar to this.

I thought it was already like this.

I remember trying to register the account Frankie, but I never could years and years ago. about 2 - 3 years ago I was able to though.

because they deleted all of the old inactive trial accounts that people were hording but not upgrading, shortly thereafter the new account system was put in place

These guest accounts, and Graal#### accounts are a royal pain in the ass on GK.. As EM it's nearly impossible to kick someone from an event that has a Graal#### account with the community name registered over it.. Unless they willingly give up their account numbers there's nothing you can do.. and the guest accounts are even worse.. with the latest speed/wall hacking fad that's been going around.. anytime you go to jail one of them it's like playing Russian roulette, you never know which trial you're going to actually end up jailing...
