Turn Based Combat scenery
1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone.
The time has come for me to turn towards the graphics community of GraalOnline in hopes of getting contributions to what I believe will be a unique server. Yes, I am in fact talking about Mythic. We are still working on it, despite everything, but we're doing one major change - all combat will be turn based. For this to happen, I need scenerys for the vast amount of environments that I hope I will one day be able to release to the public. This is a chance for you to help us out, not only by helping us with scenerys, but also by helping us come up with plans on how the end result of the world will look. Lets say you create a Ghost House scenery - that will force us into creating that kind of environment on the server, in order to be able to use the scenery. Now, I'll let your imagination set the bar here, but please try and keep it somewhat fantasy/medieval. Chances are it will not get used otherwise, so please do ask in the thread before creating a scenery that you are uncertain of. We're working on scenerys on our own as well, but we need to work on other things as well - but I figure you understand as much. Each party can contain up to 5 members, and you can fight either baddies or other players. Scriptwise I'm near completion on the system, I intend to release it to the public one day like I have done with most other Mythic scripts. I probably won't do this until we've gone Hosted though, dont want to get too much competition before that ^^ Anyways, enough chat, here's the template - it consists of a FOREGROUND and a BACKGROUND, along with squares that will show you exactly where the players will be standing during fights. A big thanks in advance for the few of you who even might consider helping us out! |
do you have an example of a secenary? Like, are you using a tileset, or images, or both? And cool idea, hope you do well <3
For combats, no tiles will be used - only one scenery image. And no, I'm afraid that I don't have an example just yet for a scenery other then this template, as we doesn't have one completed yet.
oo sounds cool but mythic isn't a server...

I'm having a hard time understanding this template. You should post an example, even if it's a crappy one, it would help a lot.
Ew, no do a Final Fantasy type battle situation, THAT would be awesome.
thats what he wants
Awesome, this will be an awesome server
What would look a lot better, is if you did some sort of perspective, give the background a perspective, and zoom the playersize depending on who's closer. A little bit of 3D look to it.
an illustration would do it
Well I mean, the illustration would give the perspective, but the player size would have to be scripted. I think it'd be a simple, but much more appealing effect than the perspectives FF used back on the NES.
Well if you want i can do awesome ganis for the attacks just let me know if you want me to help
aim = xMikeIsAwesomex |
Well, yes - I do want it FF style. For examples, I guess the best thing I could do is direct you to Final Fantasy 6 combats. Most of them have the kind of perspective you mentioned Dusty.
And it's a really great idea to change the players size depending on where he is standing, and it could easily be done. And sorry Mike, got Hachi working on those. ;) |

Huzzah, a double post! Anyways, there's one "example" that I can post just to show the general idea (for those who haven't understood it yet).
This is the level I use for scripting it, I've hidden all GUIs and everything to not show any sneak peaks yet :D NOTE: This is a TILED level, not a graphic. I will post a scenery later on when we get one finished. |
I'm confused, are you going to have a tileset to make scenery with or are you wanting to have people create like a background image for it?

That image shows a very good example on how a scenery CAN be made. :)
i like the idea of zooming players
but it looks ugly in graal :O my question is who will be gfx the battle backgrounds ? XD i think there is nobody in graal who can gfx things like this fitting with graal and let them look good ^^ |
Remember Add Cool Music When fighting lol

who ? :O
and will they work for them ? its like you want a pirat theme server but nobody has fun to gfx the ships ^^ to do quality battle backgrounds is a hard work the only thing i want to say first find the guys who gfx this things than script it |
I've nearly scripted it 100%, and, I do have skilled enough graphics artist working with me. :)

Seems like a cool idea, but are the other party members going to be player controlled, or is each player going to have their own party of characters?

Here's an example on how the perspective will look.
Wow it's true....the camera really does make you look fatter.... :frown:
It looks okay, but now the backgrounds have to be made to fit that perspective. The sample one you're using there would NOT fit, because if the people are getting smaller in the distance, so too should the background objects.
Of course. This is a temporary look, and I figured it was better then having a blank level while scripting it.
oo oo make it Pokemon style!!! I'll make a picture tomorrow when I can use me bro's comp
the zooming looks ugly at all :O
better you dont use it |
