The Rat...

What do you guys think? I've only done the outline so far...(but due to my lack of any shading/colouring skills, it will probably look even worse once i've given it fur =x).

And yes i know there are no whiskers..i dunno if i will even bother adding them in, at least not until everything else is done ;)

Why not? I prefer it over .gif or .png when sending screenshots and things over AIM.

Why not? Some images are preferably better if they're saved as a .jpg.

Monkeyboy_McGee 02-19-2004 11:56 PM

Hey yeah, why not? I used psp to save it rather than paint, obviously, because paint distorts jpg...other than mspaint's issues i don't see what's wrong with jpg =x

Other than that it's fine? Yay :)
I bet i will manage to make it look really really crappy when i colour it in *cries*

DustyPorViva 02-20-2004 12:17 AM

With lineart, it's okay to save with JPEG, seeing as though there is nothing to critique but the lines, which don't really become distorted.
But with pixel art, mainly, JPEG ruins the quality, and pixel art, every pixel counts, and JPEG can really alter that.

With larger pictures, or photos it's okay, but with pixel art, I wouldn't recommend JPEG -- better with GIF or PNG.

davidpsy 02-20-2004 12:25 AM

I hate jpg because it always alfters the quality of an image and adds all this unnessary distortation **** and I just hate it ok.

Then you are using it for the wrong purposes, or you don't know how to use it at all.

haunter 02-20-2004 02:21 AM

Oh yes, the distorition is AWFUL in those two color images...

SlikRick 02-20-2004 08:52 AM

Anyways...I think it looks pretty good...would look better if you colored it in ;)

Oh no, trust me dude...you are too optimistic XD
Outlines = easy pies with those little leaf-shaped bits of pastry on top
Colouring/shading = hard pies with bricks and nails and broken glass in =x

Anyway i'm off to bed...byeee :)

Heh, told you i couldn't colour it in.
Here's an example of my first attempt. I tried to do like...a tiled fur thingumy (remembering some snazzy little tutorial for drawing grass tiles in the forums ages ago)...and this is what happened. It looks like a little fat rug :(

Can anyone suggest how i could colour the rat in properly?

The only way to learn coloring is to look through Bazillion pixelations. Few people have the time to do this, those that do can draw. So just look through work of others and see what they do, then try to do it your self.

I might give that LineArt a go, but there is an awsome dragon LineArt I'd rather do x.x

Heh, that's a pretty kewl picture but it doesn't really show a lot of fur. Plus the rat is really thin - mine is a beefcake :O
I just wanted to know if there were any advised ways of drawing animal fur well, i guess.
