Offline Multi-Player...

I have been on graal since about late 2002, and there are many things that I missed. I hear about the REALLY classic Graal, with the offline multi-player, two-person horseriding and such, and I wanted to see what it was like, so I wanted to ask... does anyone have a link to an OLD version of graal? I think I downloaded it once, but it never seemed to work, so I want to try it again. Also, this probably will never appear again, but does anyone have like, a saved webpage of when graal pretty much first started? I've also heard of an mp3 called, "Graal in a Nutshell", anyone heard of it?

Lance 01-25-2004 04:41 AM

Last I knew, distributing the old versions of graal was against the rules.

Yes. It was a parody of sorts of the Graal community done mostly by Marle, The Game, and TrueHeaT. I'm pretty sure a couple other VAs were involved but it was mostly those three. I'll see if I can't find it for you.

I don't think there's anything bad with sharing it amongst friends but posting it here is a very bad idea. And distribution of the Gserver is strictly, 100% illegal.

Will you be my friend for $60? XD

DarkShadows_Legend 01-25-2004 05:29 AM

There was some game promotion website with a very old version of graal. I can't tell you the name though, but it is easy to find.

protagonist 01-25-2004 05:33 AM

As far as I know, only the running of older servers is illegal.

I have a copy of 1.4 I believe, I play it with my brother/friend occasionally. I think I may get a gamepad so we can all play it (3 people on one keyboard is icky), as it's quite fun to run around and take all the good items and then stalking them :).

Lyndzey 01-25-2004 05:54 AM

I think 1.31 and up gservers are illegal.

Playing old Graal versions or distributing ones (without the gserver) is not illegal. I still have Graal 1.1 (Graal did not update itself with every new version back then) on my old computer.

the Internet Archive, greatest of all that is great
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.graalonline.com

I have some old graal versions, and a zip in my filespace, but I can't remember what is all in it, so I won't link to it...

Riot 01-25-2004 08:39 AM

Last I heard old graal versions couldn't be used as an alternative to current Graal as an online game, but was perfectly fine for LAN games.

Mykel 01-25-2004 08:41 AM

I had so much fun with multi-player graal, with my brother (Arsenik Drakken - quit, in Navy, and Vladimir Drakken - Good friend, I think he quit)and friend. It was loads of fun killing eachother. Especially making our own worlds with quests. :)

Crono 01-25-2004 12:03 PM

Nice link Dach. :)

Dammit, the intro from the 2000 version of the site doesn't work, that was the intro I remember seeing when a friend of mine first told me to check it out and I was thinking,"Sweet pie."

WHIPENIE4 01-25-2004 08:38 PM

It exists/existed as more than a newbie website?

protagonist 01-25-2004 11:28 PM

Ah good memories.

Termina_Owner 01-26-2004 03:37 AM

Whoa... I didn't know they had archives of the old Graal Sites... Boy that took me back a couple of years ago... Almost A little more then half a decade ago! Nice seeing those stuff.

As for old version? I don't know... I haven't seen some in circulation. I know 1.28 version is a very known one, search that one, and you might have more change finding one!

it was a Help Guide when there was only 1 Playerworld. well. When there wasnt ports and Olorin

aylad 01-26-2004 04:19 AM

Last time I contacted Graal Staff about this they said that posting versions of Graal for download was illegal. Nothing was said about private distribution. Same goes for the old levelpack.

GServers are quite illegal, however. The idea is to keep people from setting up illegitimate servers and drawing business away from Cyberjouers... which I fully understand and agree with.

superb 01-26-2004 04:53 AM

Yeah, I report illegal gservers if I hear about them and get the connection info.

And then the myth is that Stefan uses his knowledge of gserver bugs to screw it up. :D

Myth? I thought it was proven, some guy was running a 1.3 gserver, and stefan completely "owned" him with the bugs, as i recall the story going.

thelostviking 01-26-2004 07:06 PM

yeah 1.41 was cool. I wish some page would distribute it but 1.31 is common because idiots need it for running illegal servers x.x . I just want to play with my bros hmm.

Is it anywhere uploaded? Or can stefan host a old version?

MysticHaste 01-27-2004 04:01 PM

I would Love to See Stefan make an IPX LAN Version (IPX is harder to use on the internet, most ISPs don't Support I don't think)

Just like built into the Current Graal version, Cause Having LAN would be sweet to test levels and such, but then again if your going to have a Current Version server You'd also need a LAN_NPC-Server, which would always make it real easy for HAXORSZ to make an internet version of the NPC Server, and HAXOR A 1337 NPC Server/Current GServer version of Graal for free.

So Its not going to happen I guess... :(

Kappa00p2p 01-27-2004 06:05 PM

with the new torque engine you would probably be able to do it with no problem because it would be like hosting an fps shooter like in the torque engine demo.

And if they made/had Graal offline... Why would you use that? you can pretty much do everything online...

An offline version with all 'features' will never be created, because Unix won't get 1337 monies.

Wonder if that is a bannable offense

LegendaryTsukasa 01-27-2004 08:56 PM

Couldnt be bannable...

And thats becuase they are Money Hungry =D

Ahem Ahem

I was here before that, the first time that appeared it was slow as hell, everyone checked the stats, at first it said updated every 20 minutes, I was the second one to 500 kills, i know it seems easy but back then it wasnt quite as easy as you'd think, think going into Yoshii Town, getting a little rock snake, taking it to a mailbox and getting 20 Hearts, now you see how wasy it was to get hearts, now you just need the swords and shields and god its hell killing people unless they have the PK tag. It was quite funny. And the time Spider put all the guildcodes on his site and anyone could get in any guild, these are memorys only players like Hoss, Lyndzey, Galen, a few others that still play. galen comes on classic every blue moon drunk as hell. Yea.

LegendaryTsukasa 01-28-2004 03:17 AM

The good ol' days? xD

MysticHaste 01-28-2004 04:30 AM

So many memories.

I started in like 1.37, on Geos Npulse.

So I can't say much about Classic, but I remember the site, and I remember it took me forever to download all them GFX packs that used to be there, I also remember they had an ISP ban on my ISP, so I couldn't play for like a week, until I got that cleared up.

Back then I used to play with friends IRL, and TrIz, who introduced me to the game.

Old School Graal was the best.

Also:

I'd rather play it in LAN, cause I run a 56k, and It would be cool to test my PW offline with friends, get a feel for it, before I pay to upload it.

:\

Hehe, I remember when Hoss was a newb. :) I think either I or Gandarian recruited him into Baddies...can't remember.
