Graal 3D Production - Asking for help

Hey guys!

It's Fyse VizeVerza.

I've started a project which I really want to get completed in the least time possible.
I realize you all have lives outside of Graal, and I respect that.
I just need as many people helping out with this project as possible.

I have already coded up a game engine that supports many types of 3D models.
If you'd like to see what took me One day to make, you can follow the link here:
YouTube.com/watch?v=RAZJz0v2vw0
(Read description first)

Looking for people who can:
-Make good sounds
-Make 3D models (Blender is a good program for this)
-Make 2D model textures (Like flattened skin)
-Or just people with some good ideas to create!

You do not need experience, but I do wish for it to look good in the ending result.

Comment opinions, if you'd like to help out, whatever.
I don't check this site often, SSSI you can contact me on Facebook (Fyse VizeVerza).

P.S. if this thread is posted in the wrong section, I couldn't think of where it'd fit. So please move it for me.:)

Never the less, cool project :) looking forward to see more about it!

Fysez 05-21-2014 07:18 PM

Thank you.:) haven't been on these forms in ages, didn't realize they added a YouTube link feature.

I did originally post in the general forums, but it didn't work. Said it was locked.
So I posted here.

Thanks, hoping to get some help on this.:)
From what I know, iMask may be helping with the sounds.

Been There done that, It was called Graal 3d it was on its own game engine and 3d terrain. Honestly Stefan should just enable 3d client engine and bring back 3d servers. I remember galdor was working on his 3d project on graal 3d client was amazing.
To bad it was never finish

Back in the day that Graal3D Winter Preview server was pretty great - I can't believe Stefan abandoned it.

Nostalgia goggles? Galdor's server looked pretty promising though.

Fysez 05-22-2014 08:00 PM

Although Galdor's version looks pretty awesome, it's just as you guys said.
Abandoned.

I've created my own game engine which is on the YouTube video posted above.
As you can see, I'm not the best (Or anywhere near it) to 3D modelling.
Programming is basically all I can do here.

So I'm trying to gather as many people possible to help work on this project, it'd be a neat idea to continue

I know I would love to work with Graal3d, you have to think 3d wasn't that big when they try 3d like it is today. I didn't even had a graphics card yet to even support 3d when graal3d was in the works

The characters weren't that bad or models at all but over time they will become better remember when Chrisz and Ningnong ran era or even when skyld was manager of era graphics are day and night from their time to now.

I know it's now going to be like "Omg next gen graphics!" it'll probably be pretty bad.
However, graphics don't make a game if you can set a good storyline/adventure..line?

If it turns out worse than Galdor's in the finishing product, it'd probably be time to change something.

I've already coded a Graal copy.
The game, an animation editor, a level editor (With doors included) and monster/enemy generators. All to go along, it's online playable with friends.
So I've got all the knowledge I need for this.

Speaking of which, Here's a little glimpse at the new model I'm going to be using.
The texture is not set properly, and will be fixed shortly.

Animations are done, however.

Elk 05-23-2014 01:47 AM

what do you expect to achieve by doing this? :)

I knew someone would ask a question like this.

I'm not exactly sure.
I've got an awful lot of time on my hands, When I'm not in study.

I guess.. Self-confidence?
It would be a reward to finish it, and it's something any Graalians can work together to create. Although I did expect more people would want to help out :P
That's okay. It'd be nice, but not needed.

Then good thing I added the following line

Of course, but you can't tell me that what you said didn't imply it just a little by saying "I expected more people would want to help". :p
I mean any way you look at it, the phrase comes off a mild bit naive, which is nothing meant to be negative, just purely how It's able to be seen.

Regardless, I'm just ribbing you anyways, so I do apologize If I come off a tad bit like a richard.

I hope the project itself can come to a beautiful fruition with enough effort :D

Of course I'd like help, There's no doubt to that.
I'm not sure what you're arguing against in here; You didn't specify.

Besides, I expected more because Graal is run off of players. Players become staff and build servers up to their expectations. Figured it'd be similar, but a bit more advanced.

I believe it to come along great, But no one knows that for sure :P

Last player model update for a while:

That ship sailed a long time ago. If you look back into history very few playerworlds make it onto the server list and most fail within the first year. The only decent playerwords that have made it onto the server list in recent memory are Zodiac, the redesign of Delteria, and at a very long stretch Atrius. If you look at that success rate is it any surprise people are reluctant to precipitate in the development of playerworlds?

I don't think I was trying to argue.
But I was definitely pointing out a phrase and questioning it out to proceed the thoughts out of you more on the subject, as well as mentioned before, ribbing you for the fun of it. :p

But if you think about it, people don't seem to care.
All around, people are buying servers and paying their time to achieve something great.

Everyone knows there's a small chance it'll actually become a famous server.
But there's a little piece in everyone that says "I can do it!" And so the time begins to try.

The only way a server truly fails to become what they want, is when they give up.

You can make a bad server, and then change bit-by-bit to become better -- If you don't give up.

So it's worth a shot if you're up to the challenge.

Fysez 05-24-2014 02:43 AM

Spent a long while on Collision detection.

That outlook is a little bit naive. The biggest reason a playerworld fails is that they lack any sort of focus or clear direction. This is mostly because project management practices are ignored and the development team blindly works on either none-essential or unfit for purpose systems. You can't tell me that realising, after one year of development that almost everything has to be redone that the "I can do it!" mentality still exists. I am sorry if this comes off as being mean but history does show us that a lack of project management will lead to a loss in moral for development teams upon the realisation that the last year of work was pointless.

I have quoted an old post by Dusty that explains it in more detail.

(^ timeline assumes playerworld actually succeeds, majority of the time they don't)

But in all seriousness, servers fail because they're too hyped to get working on stuff without actually putting all the time that's needed into planning. Really, really good planning can shave a few years off dev time, and possibly save a good server. And I don't mean just a small .txt with little details, I mean fleshed out stuff. Sketched maps of the overworld(and perhaps even settings, along with REASONS for a town, personalities and histories of the NPCs), lots and lots of ideas, concrete plans that bring everything together, and a firm, firm idea of what you want.

If you're talking about classic servers... oh, I dunno honestly. Just something doesn't tick for me to bring me in. If I wanted to play an RPG, I'd go play one of the many better ones out there. Era is too laggy for me(I've played 3D games where lag wasn't that big of an issue for me, being on 56k). Hmm, and others just don't seem to offer much. Maybe some would be nice but they insist on ass-ugly tilesets that burn my retina's and push me away from the server. As for the 'classic-type' servers, they offer no direction. I like exploring, but I hate randomly running around doing mindless things hoping I find a quest, and then finding one only to see it's kill a bunch of baddies or push a million blocks. Then find there's nothing to do with the fullheart I gained because the server is dead.

Jakov_the_Jakovasaur 05-26-2014 03:13 PM

its worth mentioning that in the extremely unlikely event of a newly developed server raising the bar and actually developing most of the things its staff originally set out to, theres a strong possibility that the development actually turns out to be the easy part, and the staff encounter much bigger obstacles that are entirely beyond their control

in the case of attempting to launch a 3d version of graal, the said obstacles would be even bigger

Fysez 05-26-2014 04:50 PM

I guess that's true, in a way. Maybe I look at things differently.
I once owned a server that I was working on for a few months. I developed on it alone every day, always making new things. It did fail, but not because I gave up. Because my mind was set to "What is this ever going to do to benefit me?"
I then threw the project away and went right onto making my Graal-alike, which currently looks beautiful.

Enough of story time, I have experience in 3D programming. And I can work alone.
Would be nice to have help, but not necissary.:)

I'll post pictures soon, but I've been working on the terrain -- I've got the look of it done (for now, possible change in the future), just need to add details and maybe some graphic settings in case the resolution is too high to run

Apparently she's banned on the forums because of in-Game actions, knowing Graal she won't be unbanned. Perfect example of "action > think"

You can follow the progress on her Graal FB tho
