Animated flower tiles are lagging me

They are making me lag.
How can I fix this

Jcs1919 10-20-2009 10:51 PM

get a new computer *hihihihi*

EclipsedAngel 10-20-2009 11:03 PM

Wow good one, I just got this in feb.
Intel Core 2 Duo

DustyPorViva 10-20-2009 11:05 PM

Need more details. Is it any instance of an animated flower, or lots of them, or just a 'normal' amount?

EclipsedAngel 10-20-2009 11:06 PM

like a lot of them I guess, this one event has 60 of them. Makes me have this flickering lag.

DustyPorViva 10-20-2009 11:12 PM

Lots of animated flowers can lag, yes. This is because Graal animates them by constantly looping through and actually changing the tile. Can't really fix this, and some developers may not even take this into consideration.

However, 60 shouldn't be lagging you.

EclipsedAngel 10-21-2009 12:29 AM

recording a 640x480 video at 20 fps has no lag but 60 animated flowers do.
Must be the way it's processed.

cyan3 10-21-2009 01:17 AM

I'm not sure what the problem could be. I've just tested this in a level with every tile set to animated flowers and I only lag slightly but nothing extensive enough to be a major problem and I only have a 2.93 GHz Pentium 4 processor.

EclipsedAngel 10-21-2009 01:58 AM

I think it's just my computer or something.

alskdjfhg 10-21-2009 05:22 AM

Version of Windows?

EclipsedAngel 10-21-2009 04:05 PM

Xp

It can't be a virus because nothing comes up on 2 of my scanners.

Rufus 10-21-2009 04:15 PM

Are you sure that the flowers in the event are tiles rather than gifs or something? Additionally, are you having this problem outside of UN?

Liberated 10-21-2009 04:56 PM

I thought i once heard something about graal running better on a single core then on a duel core, and something about adjusting the settings so that only 1 core is used for graal, which then reduces the lag.

I am sure. I noticed it when I walk to another room with a crap load of flowers, and I lagged, and I realized it was the flowers that are making me lag.

lag is lowered when the window is smaller btw.

I tried setting it to use 1 and it still lags.

Bullcrap. You said get a new computer. My computer is new, and good.
I got this less than a year ago and I asked them to maximize all of my hardware to nearly the best they got.
This computer exceeds my old computer by far.
What do you want me to do get an alienware computer?

Not my fault the one I have can't process some stupid flowers fast because Graal is so unoptimized.
I probably have a component that has trouble with the flower animation process.

Maybe the same reason I lag after entering a new level on Era because Era has 50-100 background NPCs per level.

DustyPorViva 10-21-2009 09:43 PM

Best I can say is maybe ask Stefan to put in an option to disable animated tiles. That won't be an immediate fix, of course...

Crono 10-21-2009 09:52 PM

Shimmy post your full specs please.

EclipsedAngel 10-21-2009 10:12 PM

windows xp professional
dell inspiron 530
intel core 2 duo CPU clocking at 2.66GHz
3 gig ram
ati radeon hd 2600 xt video card

Crono 10-21-2009 10:13 PM

Have you tried installing the latest catalyst drivers for your graphic card? Updated DirectX 9.0c?

Imperialistic 10-21-2009 10:15 PM

I would maybe remove the animated flowers for pics1.png? (i think it IS possible)

It's still going to animate the tile?

DustyPorViva 10-21-2009 10:18 PM

You can't stop the tiles from animating unless you just don't use them in the levels. This is because Graal animates the predefined positions of the tiles no matter what is there.

EclipsedAngel 10-22-2009 12:21 AM

I updated everything and it still lags

alskdjfhg 10-22-2009 01:40 AM

Hmm, maybe your hardware was made for Vista... maybe you should try getting your hands on Windows 7... whatever way you want. If you know what I mean. ;)

EclipsedAngel 10-22-2009 02:03 AM

You know that could be true.
My computer came with both XP and Vista, but they expect you to use Vista.
I can't find my vista disk though, hope I didn't leave it at my old house which I probably have no access to by now.

It would be cool to multiboot between the two.

true that, you may also find you'll need to configure Windows Vista and Graal though

DustyPorViva 10-22-2009 02:38 AM

Have you tried running Graal in Windows XP/98 compatibility mode?

EclipsedAngel 10-22-2009 02:40 AM

I don't have vista installed.

Crono 10-22-2009 11:32 AM

Have you tried re-installing Graal?
