Uuuuh iPhone servers? Iunno.

So I was playing around on a few servers and noticed my friends list. See all the weird servers with iPhone in them? Whats up with that. What is this?!

We can't really say much more about it right now, you'll just have to wait and see. :)

If you really think about it, I wouldn't say it's all that hard to figure out, but yeah... GL with the Top Secret mission :)

wild8900 07-09-2008 02:19 PM

Well what I have in mind right now is a client for Graal ON the iPhone. Either that or a RC client for iPhone. Weird. Weird weird weird weird weird.
When do we find out?

Crono 07-09-2008 02:26 PM

Judging by the names, I say there's special servers for the iPhone users.

Either that or its only split for beta testing purposes.

Must be nice to be "In the know"

Sounds cool, whatever it is.

A lot of people do have an iphone, so it might actually be a good idea, whatever it is.

Elizabeth 07-09-2008 05:01 PM

a lot of people can reupgrade too !!

Nope.

Computers are some of the most accessible pieces of technology around... if they can't get players to play graal on a computer, I highly doubt they're going to attract them on iPhones, which probably have like, 1/100th(I'm most likely being modest with this) the user base.

Rufus 07-09-2008 05:40 PM

I am going to purchase an iPhone so I can play idle on Classic while I'm idling on a train.

Door 07-09-2008 05:42 PM

I'm going to get an iPhone just so I can join communities of people with iPhones, just so I can tell them "Don't bother with that ****ty Graal game, it's a waste of money."

Darklux 07-09-2008 05:51 PM

You are wasting more time into this instead of bringing important updates, for example to gold servers and so on?
And thats where our subscription money goes..

Seriously, graal lacks manpower for that kind of stuff: don't waste your time, there are more important things to do in this game.

Elizabeth 07-09-2008 05:53 PM

im going to get an iphone so i can argue over mass on un

Yes, but there are FAR less games available for the iPhone ... if they get it released this Friday when the App Store opens and people can legally put applications on their iPhone, they could get a LOT of publicity.

Graal could actually be a pretty cool game for the iPhone, they just need to be smart and figure out some way to implement the controls.

That's a problem with YOU, not Graal.

Perhaps, but that doesn't mean people will settle for anything.

I just don't think this will help Graal enough to justify the effort put into it.

It's stupid because you don't own one?

I suggest if you do not plan on owning an iPhone or do not already, then it will concern you very little.

Elizabeth 07-09-2008 07:17 PM

well im sure that OTHER people dont own one, and dont plan on getting one

There are also a lot of people with iPod touches and iPhones that will find this interesting.

There are people who DON'T own Windows. Why should be be developing a client for Windows, since there are some people that do not own it? That would be silly.

Your logic fails.

DustyPorViva 07-09-2008 08:07 PM

So hold on... they were able to make a fully functional client for the iPhone in a matter of months, while the Mac/Linux clients were started YEARS ago, and still apparently not working correctly?

Elizabeth 07-09-2008 08:16 PM

then also havent released the flying stuff yet, nor have they fully fixed vista stuff

It's extremely easy to port from Mac to iPhone from what I've heard .... plus the Mac client is excellent and just has a few glitches (the new unreleased one of course).

DustyPorViva 07-09-2008 08:23 PM

Ah, I guess that's fine. Maybe.

Skyld told me he was making the iPhone controls, so I imagine all Stefan did was port the client.

grawlgamer 07-09-2008 08:47 PM

I imagine now that they have the zone servers they are attempting to consolidate all the extra player made images and things so that iPhones can handle the giant amount of files, and actually play the other servers. Maybe like take nicely made heads and turn them into default ones?

Actually the iPhone has a pretty good hardware for a handheld. Its got about 128mb of ram and 600-900Mhz processor (I forget which exactly). It can also play 3D games so dont sweat it.

What I'm worried about is controls :S is it gunna be onscreen buttons or what? Tilt sensors? God.

Im getting ahead of myself. We dont even know for sure that the game is gunna be ported.

EDIT: But you know what would be cool? Controls like on Zelda Phantom Hourglass. :3

DustyPorViva 07-09-2008 11:58 PM

The problem with touch controls is the iPhone can not use a stylus. Thus, even with controls like PH, you won't have much accuracy or control. Basically, you'll get a random 'point' from where your finger touched from the whole surface area of your finger against the screen. Then, add the fact that it's a small surface in the first place, and the huge actual resolution you're fitting in there... it just doesn't sound too accurate. Especially for a game revolved around aiming like Zone.

This is why you have huge buttons when you deal with touch screens. But now you're trying to move your player, avoid projectiles, and poke at little people running around fast with your finger. Heh.

I prototyped a control method, however it is not the one that is actually used. Accelerometer is used normally I think.

I mean its hard drive, it definitely cannot hold 24643 bodies, heads, hats, shields, and swords.

Yes it can. Easily. Are you telling me you have more than 8 GB of heads, bodies, etc from Zone on your computer?

My "levels" folder is only 80 MB, and that's from MANY different servers.

Some part of Graal3D is actually working on it :D The arm CPU is only 416 Mhz, thats more like a 100 Mhz Pentium. The graphics are quite fast though.

For controls it's possible to play with accelerator (for action games), touch/click (RPGs) or virtual keyboards.

First off, you need to count other games said iPhone owner wants to download, second off, I am talking about servers other than zone that have thousands of play made images.
