I'd say just give them newbie protection until they attack some one, or for 24 hours? That's the thing about newbie protection on Era, it's always been so useless... wasn't it like, 15 minutes when it was first released?

Either way, you can also keep tabs on how much money the player earns, and after they eran a certain amount, disable newbie protection?

Until they attack someone --- no way.

If you're trying to figure out the controls, and know that S might do something ...

Disable possible player hurting functions until they manually disable "newbie mode" with the exception of events they participate in?

I prefer my last suggestion the most... but that's still a poor reason. The chance that someone is next to someone else and just happens to 'try and find out what S does' and hit them, while having a knife equipped, doesn't seem that probable.

You can attack on Era without a weapon though, I think.

I think era should be more player friendly:
- Tutorials for Jobs and Fighting
- Instead of the current mafia families, which are built up by friends of the management or staffs, players should start in one family. The leadership could be determined by elections.
There could be a grace bar, like in gta2, and you can work yourself up for better family weapons or ranks; eras nepotism system is very primitive.
- Intelligent systems to prevent new resets: resets might be necessary, yet they hurt the game and some people will always loose interest in the game.

I agree, Era needs some kind of tutorial.

There's comments about a "Newbie Course" already put together. HoudiniMan had brought up the same thing, once. It offers information about making money, PKing, and getting the player started once they're finished the newbie course. Of course, the course, itself, would be seperate from the gameplay GMAP, and could also include the ability to copylevel so that 2 players would never be in the same Newbie course at the same time, but the course would not be different in any way. I'm sure Andrew could handle something like that, maybe, as far as scripting goes. Pretty sure the levels exist (or should, anyway)
