I really can't see why it wouldn't work, but I'm sure it would take quite some processing time. Valve's source engine takes screenshots of a halfway rendered scene to determine overall brightness and apply their HDR and Bloom effects, so I'm pretty certain that AA on the edges of bitmaps can be done in a somewhat hackish way as well :p
