That doesn't mean anything. There could simply be one computer with multiple NICs to handle large amounts of traffic and the GServers would just bind to different interfaces.
I don't see why Stefan doesn't just virtualize the main servers off from the UC playerworlds though to prevent stuff like this.

Actually things went quite smooth considering that two servers were making "bad stuff" on the same machine. There are quite a lot of protections against intentional and accidental lagging or flooding, but sometimes it's still possible to cause some problems. If possible report it to me via forum PM if you know of such a way.
The main servers are of course on different computers, also the private and hosted playerworlds are spreading over several computers mainly because of memory usage and fault tolerancy.

I'll PM you the script I used, it was quite hasty made though and I didn't bother making it in a "good" way since I doubted the side effect from it would be so major.

The thought of you with your own server amuses me greatly.

I didn't really do a thing to "fix" it. I triggered the script (which was a temporary function with a one-time purpose), went to the store, and came back home to find it out. When I left, Mythic was lagging horribly and the NC server weren't responding, but I thought it was temporary lag.

This is a sad day for NPC Servers everywhere. Many brave servers were occupied and incapacitated in the wide scale lag accident of ot eight. Let us please bow our heads and grant a moment of silence to the memory of those who have fallen, and subsequently, risen.

Anyways, Ziro, what did the script actually do? Lots of loops? 'Hackish' stuff? ;p

Lots of loops with lots of direct file manipulation with a bunch of custom functions containing other loops doing some misc. stuff.

Oinkness 08-15-2008 12:55 AM

The funniest thing? The script was called "Safety Dance" :D
