I wasn't talking about actual software that is free; I'm talking about if you split it up like some do to open source, free, proprietary, shareware, etc.

No one does that. Free software has a pretty precise meaning and it is not what you think it is.

Learning aid: free as in freedom, not as in free candy.

You mean imaginary property? Sometimes I can't believe how witty and awesome I am.

No it is not, my dear idiot. Quake 3 is open source now, it doesn't mean it has to be open source while its developed. Classic servers are Graal's equivalent to a completed product, meaning you can open source it because its been established that it is the original and PWA wont allow clones.

You'd be allowed to use the source code to help your own project along, not create a clone.

I'd be inclined to say I agree if you didn't stoop to insulting me for no reason. You make it impossible to argue with you. But, since I'm the kind of person that attempts the impossible: the argument is about making all servers open source, not just classic servers. ^^

The argument just changed.

We weren't done with the other argument yet. >:[ Making just Classic servers open source would be fine. I'd still like my scripts to be CC-by-nc-sa, though. The GraalOnline policies would have to be changed, though, to allow scripters to license their own scripts.

Good, that's all I care about.

And we don't need fancy licenses.

Besides I doubt anyone would want to use your scripts anyways. :p

You still have much to learn.

Making only classic servers open source would not be very useful because most servers do not get to be classic ever. :(

LoneAngelIbesu 07-29-2008 12:52 AM

But, it prevents a clone from being more successful than the original. ^^

I think the classic servers would have the more well-developed script content anyhow.

And it prevents a non-classic server from taking a script from another non-classic server and achieving success from something that was never theirs to begin with.

Classic servers being open source means that everyone for the most part already knows where the original came from so they can't just clone it and achieve success.

He should have changed it to rootbeer instead of candy.

This is the best derail ever.
