To be honest, the sword in the first attachment isn't really low poly :P
I can't do the count but it looks like it has more polygons than even the head.

Also, Robin is right... low poly means nothing unless you have good textures to go along with it. I wish I could post but pixelation has a few posts with low poly stuff that even makes a simple cube look nice because of the quality of the textures. You should use stuff catered for your models, it'll probably look a ton better.

I think it's safe to assume the work which Galdor has done here was for entertainment purposes, and the novelty of turning 2D sprites into 3D objects.

Thats wrong. It's super low poly. Games today uses many times as much polygons as any of Galdors models.
But no offence to you Galdor, I think they are really good, and I actually like the pixelated textures, they fit the models.

Just because it uses less polygons than a PS3 model doesn't make it low poly

I think just about everyone that dabbles in 3D modeling can agree, that low poly is not necessarily defined by the amount of polygons actually used (In most cases), but by the level of detail an object has.

And that sword has a lot of detail in just the polygons itself. I'd consider a low poly sword one in similar model design to the ones in Zelda:OoT.
That link you posted(ha, you're gonna get in trouble) itself says that low poly models mostly appear blocky(such as block heads). Like I said before, there's no reason a sword should have more polygons than a head in low poly stuff.
