New Graphics Tablet

I now have my first graphics tablet ever in my life, and ive only recently adjusted to using it, it's really not like looking at a piece of paper and seeing your lines.

Except the 10k ones which companys like dreamworks entertainment has :P

But i current have the program that came with the graphics tablet, and ive learn all the basics by reading the tutorials on how to use the tablet, and now i want to move onto harder and better things.

If you know of any better programs, and tutorials i can use to leave the newbie zone, please post before

I suggest OpenCanvas - it's what Scott uses, and I use it aswell.

Use a real program like psp10. It has all sorts of features that make using a tablet very good. You could also go with something like Painter 9 - it is starting to become my all time favorite graphics program. It gives rather nice results.

So wait, what makes openCanvas any less of a real program?
It supports the touch sensitivity of the tablet fairly well and people have come up with some amazing works using it.

Just because it's not expensive and bloated with unnecessary features doesn't mean it isn't good and useful.

i used to use both of those but my time ran out on both OpenCanvas i liked alot, but i couldn't do pixel art (or at least i couldn't find out how) so i had to use pspx (psp10)...OpenCanvas is better for drawings, and pspx is better for pixel art...that's just my opinion though....

Man, OpenCanvas is terrible. There is no brush variety, the interface is horrible, its unstable, and when compared to PSP or Painter it is just not an option.

Oh yes, I also used Corel Painter - this was GREAT but very laggy (has brush variety and some other really neat features).

Brush variety? So what, you can't recreate the last supper. It's still the best out there, and if a program with no brush selection beats all the others, that tells you something.

I've used PSP. I haven't used it enough to make a hard-backed opinion, but I personally dislike it. If anything, I'd use Photoshop, but since that isn't in everybody's price range, I'd have to go for ZeroHour's and Scott's choice.

I got painter classic with my tablet, but it kinda sucked... bought one for my little brother for x-mas (tablet) hes painter classic is more like painter 9 =) it has like all usefull tools but the cool light effect brush that i used for making the green flame/smoke on my site.

You can say what you like about it, but when you look at the fact that people use it, and like it when compared to the others, there's no way you can say it isn't an option.

Besides, ability to create art doesn't come from what program you use.
You can have the most expensive art program with the most features and all the bells and whistles, and still not be able to make more than stick figures.

Conversely though, you can have a simple, easy to figure out art program, and have someone who know hows it works, with some real artistic talent be able to create amazing works of art, despite their "inferior" tools.

Haha, Soul-Blade, you're so damn biased. As far as you're concerned you need to have programs that already do work for you for it be good. It's like the idea of pixel art to you. You seem to think all pixel art is a waste of time, and don't respect the challenge of it. Painter IX is by all means a wonderful program, but is also very heavy. It's intended for users that, from what I understand, can't do much in natural medium. It emulates those natural mediums for you mess with like photoshop newbies do. The more variety of brushes/filters, the better obviously. Hah. Okay, Opencanvas is beautiful in its simplicity. It also has the basics for what you need to set your brush. Sensitivity, density, size. Why the **** do you need other people to do work for you? That really annoys me how arrogant you can be and not respect the potential of other programs. Here's something I did with a friend in OCNetwork (which is even more light weight than OC3) that I'm pretty ****ing positive you couldn't do in Painter IX. (You meaning you, Soul-Blade.)
