What do you think a manger should do? I know this can vary from server to server so please stick to the basic should and should nots. What constitutes as a good manager or a bad manager? Do good managers always do that much more than bad managers, or do they do even less? What makes you like a manager?

How much should a manager delegate their powers and responsibilities?

I just thought it would be interesting what everyone thinks makes a good or bad manager!

I don't believe managers are really needed, though, someone is needed to make sure everyone does something. The manager position w/ its rights basically gives them the power to do this. Although, the manager itself should also be able to develop somewhat.

i think its important because there has to be a designed person that controls every big movement at the server... and also keeps the relationships with other servers/PWA etc.

The manager has to be able to guide the actions of their team for the overall good of the server. They should be able to settle disputes as best they can between various staff members and be able to keep the playerbase at bay. Dev experience is a plus, but not really necessary if they've got a solid development team backing them up.

A good manager is someone who can be looked up to by the entire staff team. A good role model and a support limb. S/he should have a clear goal for the server and a plan on how to get there, otherwise the manager is just useless.

Managers should be able to decide the difference between what is wanted by the players and what is realistic and find a good median to accomplish a project. Managers should also be able to recognize the difference between the players' wants and the server's needs. It's also important for a manager to realize that what the players want isn't always what's best for the server and it's their duty to decide how well something will improve a server.

A manager should delegate their power and responsibilities outward to control teams separately. If you have different limbs to a body it's a lot more stable, so good team leaders should represent the administration for their team. The manager should be involved in all of the future updates to the server and should be motivating to their staff team and easy to get along with.

Managers need to make their authority clear and make decisive decisions when it problems arise.

They also need to have a good grasp of both written and unwritten rules of Graal.
