Woo, corrupt Babylon.

They jailed me for massing out to come back and play UN, after UN was down due to technical problems. Wooo! I guess Babylon can't get their own playercount, so they have to make sure they keep the ones they gain due to an hour of downtime on the more popular servers. I'd give this to the GM, but since there isn't one I figure you guys can solve it.

I sincerely doubt it. And if you think that the majority of your would-be players are stupid, no wonder your playercount is so low on average.

To bring you more insight into what happened, im posting for T3CK so here you go
Quote:
Sent by T3CK
Special Message brought to you in part by T3CK:

Sup llamas. It's been a while since I've been "banned" on
these forums, but I am the one responsible for the jailing. I
massed out on RC a message saying that I was sick of the
players begging for people to come to their server (I would of
even jailed players saying to stay on Babylon), and it was
getting really annoyed. Vampiric was the only one who
continued to beg, so I jailed him. Spark came on, Projectshifter
backed me up all the way. Vampiric, you would be out, but
unfortunately, like a tool, you liked to Spark about what you did.
You told him that you just massed saying that UN is back up,
when the fact is, you massed begging players to come to UN.
Here is a mass...

VT (7/7/2003 3:15:20 PM):
Mass message:
UN is back. Come play.
VT (7/7/2003 3:07:45 PM):
Mass message:
Again, UN is back up and in working order.
VT (7/7/2003 3:06:50 PM):
Mass message:
UN is back.

Seems like begging to me.

You will be in for 3 days, and if you don't like it, well, too bad.
Now post a lame reply insulting me, I can't reply to it, just PM
me on the game if you want to talk about it.

Was there any profanity in this mass message?

The first message was asking. The other two were notifying...

I said nothing of the sort in accordance to babylon. Get your facts straight. As for T3CK, PS is an idiot,

Projectshifter -brb (07/07/2003 4:42:02 PM):
wow, thanks, I really don't care. You've just proven yourself
ignorant and an *******. Flame me on the forums, and you'll
soon regret it. I wont' start it, but I'll finish it.

Projectshifter -brb (07/07/2003 4:44:55 PM):
Whatever. You seem to think that you're better than everyone
else.
Honestly, you're just a prick.
I wouldn't mind trying to be friends if you could get over your major
ego problem.

I love how globals and staff members are allowed to act towards players.

Mass message:
Come play UN, we're back up.
Its more of a command than letting them know, well not only should you not have really done it, as its advertising, and nobdy wants to loose playercount, and it will be more vital in the future.

And as you said players went there after UN went funny for a period of time, but UN was gaiing players back quite quick, word would have got around in private PMs and not Masses, and if not, it would be almost back to normal the next day.

Servers go down, and some PWs get a bigger playercount, but it normally levels off after 1-2days. Advertising for the PW is not a good idea.

Never have I seen anywhere rules against advertising for playerworlds. Would that make people trying to hire for UC playerworlds also violating such a rule?

If eveyrone was jailed for saying something like that, there would be very little players that still played the game.

But yes, I totally agree that is not a way to conduct yourself.

I'd have done the same. One mass message I might let slide but for 3 message I would either put you in a no pm jail for a specified time period. Or if I didnt have one I would ban you for a specified time period. Which was done here. Now if it was something where you kept on at it I might make it longer. Such as you're doing on the forums now. Not to mention this kind of post is actually against the forums rules.

Common sense would tell you not to go on another server advertising competition. That's basically the same thing as advertising other mmorpgs on the forums. They're in direct competition with each other. So what if people are on that server for a while. If they really like un then you dont have to worry about anything and they'll be back in a couple of hours.

But all in all I would say the staff who ban jailed you for 3 days was well within his rights.

And normal players act differently? Based on those quotes I read you weren't the "idol of contemptness".

If they are mass advertising then yes, its one of those rules PWs can enforce, or let slide. Some dont mind it, while others will. So watch your back. Or just dont do it, as Dragin has said, I wouldnt walk into Asda [Like walmart] and advertise Tesco [Like Asda.. but better].
