The reason playerworlds are failing is the same reason that current worlds are surviving. If you took a survey on any server asking why they play Graal, the majority of the responses would be related to the social aspect of gameplay. When a new playerworld goes up, a lot of people are going to want to check it out, so of course it's popular. However, these players often go back to playing the server that they're used to because that's where they can talk to and interact with all of their friends and the people that they're used to. This is why Classic has survived through a time where there was a serious lack of gameplay.
In essence, the only way for a playerworld to survive is to be introduced during a time where the number of subscribers to Graal is growing substantially and to offer a unique form of gameplay (ex. Era). Nobody's going to play a server with 2 players, meaning that if it's just people from other servers playing this server for the time being, it's not going to last. If there are a lot of newbies playing on a new server, then the server has a really good chance of surviving because the newbies will form social ties.
Pretty much a global chat room where you can play with your avatars would be the easiest way to accelerate the growth of playerworlds. I wouldn't want this because I'm currently trying to get more content on Classic so that the newbies will join in and enjoy the content. In essence I'm currently trying to expand the demographics that would differently answer why would you play this server? (Classic).
