The one with shading looks more curved downwards on the sides, instead of flat like the non-shaded one.
I like the shaded one.

Yeah. It still looks flat on top.
Trying using a decreasing marginal increment with your shading, so that it seems to get steeper the closer you get to the edges.

I like this one, but you ran into a bit of that scissor cutout problem again. Maybe breaking up the border a bit would help.
