Wouldn't need it if they used some common sense and released a classic server to the public.... WITHOUT REAPING BENEFITS FROM A POOR SOUL *gasp*

A testing server that is listed under the Hosted tab would be the least they could give us (since it's pretty clear that they're not planning on updating their offline tools, ever).

But it's better to have online tools that will never exist!

heh, yeah.
I'd be fine with online tools if they didn't suck and were available to potential developers (i.e. through a testing server)

Buy a server, bug Stefan to transfer the content, change name to Testbed, apply to Hosted.

Would be a lot easier to convince Stefan to just host Testbed for free. Didn't Skyld say he would bug Stefan about that, or was that someone else? The PWA should really be on him about it.

Setup TestBed.

Charge a paltry sum of something like $0.50 for 3 months of use which is available to all.

Advertise it as a way to get a feel of Developing without having to pay $65 or $104 for a server.

Self sufficient but not damaging to the income provided by server renting?

There should be more server renting lenght options in the first place, not just 6 months or 1 year b/s

Yea. I agree, Soala.

I don't know the current pricing, but lets say 6 months is $60. 12 months should be $100, 24 months should be $180, 36 months should be $250 or something along those lines. It's just a lot more reasonable, and if someone has 2 years left on there server, less incentive to quit.

@Thor, I agree.. just charge $5. for 6 months. If you get 15 people you're profiting.

Kinda missed the point, think he's talking about the lack of shorter options (3mo, 1mo).

Well I was talking about both. People could just plan to build up a server for a long time and the price would be reduced if you rent it for a long period of time, but there should be shorter options as well so people can try out what it is to develop on their own.

Actually, I'm sure a lot of people would be interested to try out some ideas if they could rent their own playerworld for let's say 1-3 months, just as you said. Having to pay 6months minimum to find out 2 weeks later that developing is not your thing (or you got better things to do) is just plain and pointless, and a holy waste of money

Something needs to be done...thats all I know.

Someone pmd me yesterday, asking me how to get started scripting. He was serious about learning gs2.

And the best advice I could give him was to find some server with owners who don't know what they are doing in order to get rc and practice scripting....how sad is that?

He asked where the tools or offline editor was for gs2. And I really didn't know what to say.

I had actually asked Tigairius about taking up payment for the server and he said the only way he could guarantee the content would remain/be available to Classic accounts is if I transferred money to Clockwork and had him pay for it.

C'mon, man.

In the meantime, anyone interested in learning how to script can feel free to join me and Mallard on Maloria. Shouldn't be too big of an issue, we could spot you some advice here and there as well.

I think it's possible but given his track record for offering customer assistance I don't find it likely. 20 PMs later and I still haven't gotten even a "no" from him asking if he could transfer my lifetime classic to a new account without spaces in it.

Has anyone offered to give Aeko the money so he can repurchase the server?

It does seem ridiculous if thats the only way we can get Testbed back...but, if its the only solution...

I don't think anyone should have to pay. I'd rather see it not come back than to see Stefan ignore one of the few great things that developers actually got in a while(and hell, that was from another player, as always). As much as I loved to hop on testbed when I felt like it and mess around, it's just not worth it.

Absolutely. Also, if you think about it, testbed really would help business. If players can go on testbed and learn things, they'll see what it's like (and perhaps how much fun it can be) to actually own a server, leading to increased profits from rented servers. Wouldn't it make sense to offer something like that for free, if the end result is beneficial?

Of course we shouldn't have to pay.

When we have to pay for to develop a server, the least Stefan could do is give us somewhere to learn gscript.
As of now, if someone wants to learn to script...its kinda like....oh well.
Practice offline and hope your doing it right.

Or find someone who will let you practice on their server...

But most likely, nothing will be done about it. Stefan will sit in ignorance, not doing anything to better development on Graal...as usual.

I wouldnt mind buying it for myself.. but i aint going to pay someone else's server when i dont even use it myself..

Now this might sound weird, but when its my own server i still have some profits on it.. on the side i could still develop my own server aside of it

Aside.. is that even a real word xd i meant like next to it or we

Asking him for testbed will never work.
You need to ask for an offline NPC server emulator and scripting documentation and he'll give us a test server as a compromise and because it seems like a lot less work in comparison.

You need to ask for an offline NPC server emulator and scripting documentation and he'll give us a test server as a compromise and because it seems like a lot less work in comparison.
Interesting psychology there.

Christmas presents can be expensive, with unemployment and all. xP

Or if you'd like, I could set up donations for it. lol
