The scripted playerlist's only redeeming quality is that it displays heads regardless of what server you're on.
And the theme can be applied to make it contrast less with everything else. The external one is an eyesore because you can't not look at it, it's just another active window to take up space. The scripted one can be given a smooth skin and then shrunk down so it's out of the way. Plus, you can get rid of the ugly PM bubbles and use nice ones from your state (sprites?) image.

Unless it's not doing what it's saying, you can highlight people on the in-game playerlist, right-click, and 'Open PM'. The PM windows show up with the heading 'Message to Selected'.

The external playerlist delivers internal content. That is not good UI design. It shouldn't be disconnected; either all of it is external or all of it is internal.

It doesn't make it hard to read at all. The text is magnitudes lighter than the background. In fact, if it were any other color than light blue, it would be more difficult to read.

What do you mean? The tabs are the exact same size and use the exact same icons. If anything, the external tabs are more difficult to differentiate, since there isn't any kind of color difference between the selected tab and the unselected tabs, unlike in the internal playerlist.

That's only a technical detail. There is no significant (read: noticeable) difference in speed or responsiveness. If you think there is, then you're looking too hard for it.

I would probably have used the external playerlist if it was 100% external. But it just makes more sense to use the internal playerlist, since the PM windows, profiles, history, etc. are all internal windows.

I mean the spaces reading "Staff", "Guild", "Normal", etc. Tab was the wrong word for me to use.

So far I have yet to see a decent theme that addresses my issues with the scripted playerlist.

Seems to me that the problem lies within internal content then, because the external ones (profiles, etc) were there long before. Almost all of the new internal content share the same faults as the playerlist.

Because a blue background is good to begin with, right? My point is that it's harder to read.

@tabs, refer to my response to kia.

No, it is there. It's noticeable when you're used to normal framerates when gaming. As a matter of fact Graal's 20fps hurts my head at times if I don't play it for a few days after playing other games.

The playerlist itself is 100% "external", it's just that the PM windows and history were altered for security purposes or something. Profiles are still external on the v5 client.

The Mac client has the playerlist integrated with no way of changing it. On Windows, I recently found out that I can use the integrated playerlist, and have started playing with that one.

You're right that the problem lies within internal windows, but I don't really find any faults with internal content.

It's not hard to at all, unless you're blind or something. Are you saying it's hard to read because you actually have a hard time reading it, or just because it 'could' be hard to read? Not that I want to get into some kind of discussion on color theory.

You have weird head, then. I see no difference in responsiveness between the external and internal playerlists. Never have.

The problem is still that it's not entirely external. I simply do not understand how it doesn't annoy people to have half the functionality of the playerlist be external, and the other half internal. Given the choice between that and having a fully integrated internal playerlist, the choice seems obvious to me.

I'm not judging, though. If you like the external playerlist, then good for you. I don't get why some people get all up-in-arms about it. Yes, I do realize the irony in that statement!
