I prefer Instances from experience.

If someone who isn't in your party can interfere, they will, especially if they can PK/Lame you.

Entirely depends upon the quest. Side quests should usually be clientside. Main quests is the part that I have problems with, but I'm not convinced that this party system idea will solve much, though I do like the idea of teams being more defined.

As opposed to parties, why not guilds? You can only interact with fellow guild members in a quest? Go further than that, you can interact with allied and enemy guilds too.

If I were to do parties, I would want a more controlled group. This would give me leeway to control quests and output something that works for everyone because I know that it will be either 1-4 players, rather than 1-xx players(which always seems to complicate quest development).
