My gani editor already lets you select the image area you want to add . It also has an interface for attaching sprites to each other, but I don't like it and it needs work. I haven't had much time to work on it lately due to school though, and I need to refactor some parts so alpha blending can be shown in previews (already works on the main editing canvas) and so exporting to GIF can be done.

Last I check this was a very very long time ago though so it may have been fixed by now? If it was, I would be insanely happy.
Likewise, I could make object-oriented ganis...the player swings his PARAM1.gani, and based on what gani he's swinging determines how the rest of the gani plays out. Swords and axes and baseball bats are all fairly similar, but whips and maces and lawnmowers and, um, children being held by the ankles?, animate differently.

Not yet, there's still a bunch of work to be done. The timeline needs more work, saving needs to be added (easy), undo/redo isn't done yet, and some other stuff. I'm not sure when I'll have time to get back to working on it.

That is the exact reason why I want to be able to do it
It is more over so that I can use a gani to let me place any size of weapon.

It would be nice if you could make like .glist files or something similar, the format is like
PHP Code:
GLIST
block
.png 0 0 32 32
funky_tile
.png 0 0 16 16
and you can import these lists, and the gani editor adds them. This way, you could even make a script like what you guys were suggesting, select the image, and then hit export, saves either on the server, or in scriptfiles, then you import the list. Exporting could also be done with default gani editing.

But ofcourse, this will never get done.

Is there some difference between what you're talking about and just saving a Gani that has no frames but does have sprites? I think I may be missing something.
