replace Merchant with Smith on the Joblist, there arent many real skills in Merchanting.

Hehe....there is more than meets the eye

Those are the base levels for the 6 jobclasses currently available...there 3 more levels for each...each one adding something unique. L1 Merchant can simply trade...an L4 merchant can set up shops and run them.

the merchants should be able to use their immense amounts of money to buy mercenary NPCs, and such, so they could set up their own little castle

Um, no...the Dark Mage won't change...you could be a red mage by choosing White Mage and Dark Mage...you would be left with 1 more jobclass slot.
