How will you handle the building/destroying of land?

Unless your somehow going to make an infinitely~ spawning world like Minecraft.
Otherwise, wont all of the resources be used up almost immediately? :P

We are going to make an infinite map. Don't worry about it, we have it sorted.

Is wall collision detection working out well for you? I know sometimes there can be issues when making side-scrollers like being able to scale walls if the detection isn't just right.

Also, you should definitely try out a game called Spelunky if you guys are looking for more inspirational ideas. Spelunky is a roguelike set in a very deep set of caverns with varying themes and a lot of items that make a huge difference every time you get an upgrade. Might give you ideas for what kinds of weapons and items would be useful to include.

Here's some footage, along with hilarious commentary by my favorite user on youtube:

Nice video! Yeah it works perfectly well for me and other players, although a few (fulg0resama) have issues with being able to move.

I kind of don't like the movement. The physics seem stiff and the collision is a bit off. It's fine on the left side but when colliding on the right you collide like 4 pixels away from the block. Also you slide off the corners of blocks on the side, and you shouldn't(it's a good technique when the player is PUSHING against a block corner, but not when they're not actively applying their force against it, like when just sitting on the edge).

Update ~ Dusty
Fixed the movement system up a bit. The "getting stuck" bugs from before have been cleared up, and a few others too. The collision detection is near perfect now. Thanks for the help Dusty.

Update ~ Crow
Fixed the weak memory editing boundaries. Extra protection has been put in place to stop the movement being edited so easily. Thanks for letting us know and providing us with some entertainment yesterday.

Funny
0PiX0 sadly had to dash off after fixing the movement system, but I managed to get a clear estimate as to where he was dashing off to.

I don't get what you're saying. I only really give up on a project (Lexia), when I get 2 or 3 months into development and nothing seems to happen. We've been working on GrimeCraft for less than a week and we've made a lot of progress. (Obvious evidence would be the posts around this thread)

I do have a lot of drive and I have a bundle of great ideas. I have a small but amazingly talented staff team and enough time to get somewhere with this idea. Thanks for your input though.

Hiring Information
We are hiring Graphic Artists to help out with GUI graphics, tool graphics and also work alongside with our Animation staff to determine a suitable template so we can animate your work into usable tools and weapons for players. You won't be working on the tileset though. Application can be found in this thread.

Haro, usually I like to read what you say, but I feel this was just not thought through enough. It's never a great thing to assume based on rough draft idea, because we don't know what may be in store entirely, but I'd like to quote what someone told me once, they said "To assume is to make an ass of you and not me."

When it comes to this game in general, there's exactly not a whole lot you're capable of even making, so before judging it based on its base, you'll want to figure out exactly the details are.

I'm not dissing Zenkou's gameplay or w/e. I'm just calling him out on the fact that his server has been in development since Zodiac was first bought many years ago. He shouldn't be criticizing other servers when his hasn't gone much further.

i looked at terraria and alot of their ideas would be great for use on your idea here. it seems to be more like a 2d shooting game with Wormz like weapons. could be alot of fun. But graal is restricted to 20fps which could be a problem for smooth looking animation

Why did you even make this post? It's completely useless and doesn't really contribute to anything mentioned in this thread so far.

We all have this figured out already, I think he means, why did you bother posting what you said? It's unnecessary if he realizes it's going to be a homage to Minecraft.

Yes it does. He's telling you to not make this server as there's another game that he would rather play instead.

I don't actually agree with him, I want you to keep going with this server, but just because someone else makes a negative post about your project doesn't mean it's useless. He's just expressing his opinion just as everybody else who posted "good luck" did, but I don't see you telling them that their posts are useless?

I don't really give a monkeys whether or not he "wants" me to make this server. This is a hiring thread. Stick to the topic.

Looks great but shouldn't the water level be even? xP
also the darkened (by water) earth tiles makes no sense.

Didn't bother doing lava or something yet, and I'm still unsure about the tiles I've changed o.o....

Added a bit of a platform to walk on, and I tried to add it underwater too, but as you said, it came out wierd. x.o
especially considering that fact I only made it for the darker water, and used it up higher too XD

Stone will probably be changed? I guess that's what it is... doesnt really work.

Are the blocks dynamic? Like if you remove a block under water does the water flow down?

Ya, you're gonna have a hard time coming up with a decent lighting scheme in Graal, so good luck with that. Especially when you consider that giving the player a circular light around them, regardless of terrain around them, is a huge advantage. This is why the light in Terraria is calculated the way it is(with blocks blocking it). In Terraria, being able to see even a few blocks into the surrounding dirt is a huge advantage as it tells the player which direction to dig to continue, whereas light being blocked obscures the surrounding cave systems.

So really there isn't any need to block out the entire screen with fade effects and all the jazz. A simple effect like this one will suit it.

A limited area of light a player can see like having a lantern in a dark room.

I don't think that will be suitable. Not only are you giving players the ability to see through walls(in caves this is a big advantage, telling the player if there is a cave on the other side) but it would only allow for a single light source. You can't just "draw" two lights together in Graal because it doesn't have the capability of doing that. There are a few ways to do something like this, but none really favor a real-time environment because they're all pretty cpu intensive.

I'm still working on this, just not as much as I was before. 0PiX0 is pretty busy with a lot of other duties at the moment so it's just me <3 I added a party system that lets you join and leave parties, and also warp to other people in the same party as you. I've also added a new display for money to the HUD at the top of the screen since I'm starting to code the currency system. It will allow players to buy new tools and blocks when we have them systems up and running. I only have like 70 days left on the server, so I'm sure I won't get it done, or near a playable standard unless I renew the server. I can't afford to D:
