Largely an offline dev item:
the opposite of putnpc. Saves a big long string to a text file, clientside, offline. A sufficiently clever scripter can use this to make an offline file-save method:
savenpc file1.cwg,{if(created){setstring hp,#s(hp); setstring mp,#s(mp); setlevel2 #L,#v(playerx),#v(playery);};

Then you could load by putnpc with file1.cwg. :-D

It's not EVERYTHING, but it's enough. If you design your offline game with all the toweapons in one level, you can have the savenpc detour the player through the loader level...

We're not getting it, and quite frankly, I would prefer a lot of other things before even considering the addition of something like this.
