Valikorlia

So, I'm sending this to the globals (Spark911 is still in charge of PWs, I assume?) but I'm posting this here so it may be seen more, and possibly catch the attention of people who wont read e-mail.

And yes, I know most of you hate us and our server but right now we all hate it too and everyone else has given up on trying to get things fixed.

Hello. I play on the Valikorlia server. Yes, the boring one where everyone just talks a lot. It wasn’t always this way. We wish it weren’t this way now. But there’s a large obstacle standing in the way. This would be our manager, Clash.

There is a long history behind his management of the server that I don’t feel needs to be discussed, but suffice to say he was put in place because the server, as a whole, felt the then-current manager was doing no work and not helping the server at all. And, years later, here we are in the same situation. Worse, even.

Clash has spent two years managing the server, and in this time has done almost nothing for it. We have had several half-finished systems that were scrapped because he could not decide what he wanted to do. Early in his management he abandoned the server altogether and began to make a stand-alone game that never saw the light of day, but that rendered the actual server he was supposed to be managing barren and lifeless.

I understand that the position of manager is difficult and stressful, but the abandonment of the server and the treatment the players are subjected to is disgraceful. In the last year, the only development the server has had was due to a co-manager who was barely able to access the system’s resources, and he eventually gave up as well, because Clash’s continued insistence on keeping the server without actually doing anything for it prevented him from doing anything that wasn’t largely cosmetic.

The only actual developments have been half-finished, often broken, and not of any substantial use as to even affect gameplay for very long. New levels do not make up for two years of being told our game wasn’t being developed because the manager was doing his own projects.

http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=51043

We used to have all of that and more. Clash scrapped our entire gameworld and now we have basically none of it. If he were not holding the server without actually developing it, we could have most of the requirements up within a week or two.

As if this weren’t enough, Clash is completely inappropriate and disrespectful. He hires and fires staff at random, banning people that do not agree with him and causing the server never to progress because no one can keep their jobs long enough to make a difference.

Recently, he fired a perfectly good staff member for using the f word in an admin message that was unintentionally sent to the entire playerbase. This was in line with his job, as the Playerworld rules state: “Staff should never PM or Mass Message offensive material. They should also not have offensive material in their profile.”

Yet twenty minutes ago from writing he was massing that the players of his server are all dipsh*ts and “a bunch of idiots.” Surely this isn’t the kind of person that should be allowed to manage a server. If you want, I can get more logs of Clash swearing at players, threatening to ban them for disliking them, things that ANY ADMIN would get fired for, but Clash gets away with.

Clash (Sun Sep 03 23:30:05 2006):
Mass message:
So ignore RP points, you dip****s.
Clash (Sun Sep 03 23:32:45 2006):
Mass message:
Oh gee. Lets wonder why Clash never comes around.
Could it be possibly because you're a lot of idiots?!

Countless appeals have been made to the global staff, even directly to cyberjours, often by Clash’s own staff members, but no one has done anything. I’m trying again, because I don’t want to see a server I’ve played on for seven years die.

We used to get over 100 players at peak hours. Now, we’re lucky if we break 40. I don’t know why the staff that is managing this game is allowing this person to stay in management. We have plenty of motivated, talented people that aren’t being allowed to do anything because Clash won’t let them. At the same time, we’ve been waiting for years for any sort of change on this server, but we are left without a system, and a small staff that can’t do anything of real worth despite their talent and dedication.

The saddest thing is, we’ve been trying to change things. So many people have tried to get the globals to enact change, but no one is listening. We all have so much love for the server, but our manager has actually professed to caring much more about his Zelda 64 editor than for the server he has in his vice-grip. All we want is our server back. We want to have fun and actually play this game. So, even though I know it probably wont do anything, I’m writing a letter because I can’t sit by and watch this server die a cold, lonely death.

EDIT: Response to Crono:

He was showing me screen shots two years ago. We all want something new, but he wont let us do anything. I don't want old val, I want something new, but Clash isn't letting anyone but himself do work, while we spend two years twiddling our thumbs.

Like I said, Clash wants to make a new game but we want this one, things have been basically the same for way too long and he refuses to do anything with it. We're tired of it.

Spark is no longer even a global.

The server itself can't progress. Want the leveling system that made Val 2003 so popular? Oh wait, Maloria and Zodiac already stole the glory.

Who's more competent to take his spot? What do you think can be done about val to begin with? Return it to 2002? That won't work, that specific playerbase is long gone from Graal.

You want the 2004 worldmap, the last Val revision before Clash took over? Oh wait, that was intended for a playerbase of more than 50.

In my opinion until a new val comes along nothing can be done and I don't think you should bull**** clash when you haven't seen sneak shots of new val. :/

I'm torn up about Valikorlia as well. I used to be an FAQ there... until Clash blacklisted me (while he was still the NAT Admin, and not yet manager). I played Valikorlia back in the day like a trial plays UN -- I'm serious.

Best. server. ever.

After Clash became Manager I quit Valikorlia because he disliked me a lot and I knew I wouldn't be able to do anything. I moved over to Maloria and every time I heard something about Valikorlia from the players that I spent all of my time with back in the day, I was always told that everything was going to hell because of Clash.

I don't know what Crono is talking about with new screenshots for new Val or anything, but the way the original poster puts it -- I agree with him. It doesn't sound like much has changed, personally.

I'm sure there are things that are in development, but every time I login there I don't see much of anything, except a bad GUI that overlaps on itself. Hell, I don't see anything there anymore. It's all changed.

Whenever I go there I wanna start reciting lines from that Anglo-Saxon poem The Wanderer.

Hello! I like how you come out of +1 year of inactivity to come be the super hero.

Absolutely nothing to show for it!
You know, -god forbid- that I want to make Valikorlia into something that is a higher quality then what it's been for the last six years.

Most of the problems are caused by something known as "text roleplaying" and the fact many people disagree with eachother and can't get along. If you think about it for a second - this has nothing to do with the server or manager. It has directly to do with the players.

As for a few of your comments:

"We used to get over 100 players at peak hours. Now, we’re lucky if we break 40."

No. We didn't use to get 100 players at peak hours. We use to get generally 60 players, which we had still been getting untill Augest when school started up again. Unless you mean in 2003, when the 'MMORPG' system was in place, sure we did. But you just complained to me on the game that my 'new val' was an 'MMORPG kill people place' or something. So that can't be it.

Not a lot of people enjoy text RP on Graal anymore, chief. Not a lot.

"As if this weren’t enough, Clash is completely inappropriate and disrespectful. He hires and fires staff at random, banning people that do not agree with him and causing the server never to progress because no one can keep their jobs long enough to make a difference."

I don't fire people at random, I don't ban people that don't agree with me. I typically only ban people who scream racial slurs because I only use RC1!

Infact I usually hire people who disagree with me because they care about the server. Gee? Nadrion? He removed my RC for two hours untill I had someone readd it, did I ban him? No. Do you know why?
Gosh, he cared about the server.

I like how you take everything out of context and disregard the fact players were cursing at me and being extreamly disrespectful. I like how you also don't add that my real life situation consists of me living in the middle of nowhere without any transportation to a store to buy food. Yes. I really want to log on every single day and chat it up with a bunch of idiots who do nothing but moan no matter what, especially with my situation in life!

Not that I don't log on every day, but I do refrain from chatting. Putting these as dead serious comments when they're obvious sarcasm because a person is on almost every single day is really cool.

Totally disregard the fact that I am on RC and AIM at any given time (considering I have no where else to go, not having any sort of transportation). Totally disregard the fact I tell people if they have a problem, comment, suggestion, or something that needs to be scripted that they can just IM me.

I absolutely want to talk to them every second of my life despite the fact they appericate absolutely nothing and only want to whine about how horrible things are, forgetting they had managers who would literally ban people for being in the same level as his girlfriend. Absolutely and postively is my attitude in regards to talking to people who spread baseless lies about me. Totally.

"Dip****" is the first curse word I've said since I've become Manager over mass messages, by the way - and considering the fact they were excessively crying over something they could easily ignore. Well, I think that's not entirely out of line in that case. Oh wait. I forgot. I'm supposed to a saint, I'm not supposed to say dip**** after being annoyed to death and having to break up an arguement at THREE IN THE MORNING.

"If you want, I can get more logs of Clash swearing at players, threatening to ban them for disliking them, things that ANY ADMIN would get fired for, but Clash gets away with."

Yes. I threaten ban people every single day, Wind. Every day. -Just- because I dislike them. Please stop living in the land of make believe.

"but our manager has actually professed to caring much more about his Zelda 64 editor than for the server he has in his vice-grip"

You lack the ability to read obvious sarcasm.

"After Clash became Manager I quit Valikorlia because he disliked me a lot and I knew I wouldn't be able to do anything."

That's why I immeditaly banned you after I became Manager!
.. Oh wait, that never happened did it?

PS. If I ban everyone I dislike - why aren't you banned?

Thats a pic of New Val, which has yet to be released.

However, as a player of Valikorlia, I have some of my own opinions to contribute.

First of all, I didn't play in Val2003 or anything. Heck, I joined maybe 5 months before the flood. Yeah, I'm not exactly an oldbie, but I still have an opinion.

There -have- been improvements in Valikorlia in the last few months. There have been some RP events going on as of late, none of which I've been around for, but they've still been around. Also, this version of Valikorlia really isn't all that awful. You can still RP in it, y'know. I do, and so do quite a few other people. Make the best of what you have.

Unfourantly people don't realize they actually have to roleplay to make a roleplaying server work. Instead they just whine and cry about how life is unfair and what a terrible manager you are.

Yea but the developer is still more or less set to help the player function in a certain role. Not just make them walk around their pixels trying to speak as if they are from medevil ages.

Play WoW

o and if that stuff is rlly yours and it actually works right gj.

Can Valkoria still be a classic server with being like GK, better graphic wise. Wouldnt it be Gold?

Clash works really hard working on new val, i think its a tad unfair to bring up things like this without actually looking into what your talking about.

Except thats also part of the problem. Clash works hard on <b>New</b> Valikorlia, while not much work is done on current Valikorlia.

Clash is doing a good job, just takes some time.
It's hard to manage a server.
