Perhaps he was making those games a counter-instance? I don't know why he would instead of an regular example, but Zurkiba works in mysterious ways.

Final Fantasy VI was beautiful for its time and still is beautiful in pixel terms.

It's previewing a tileset. Don't get ahead of yourself. It's not Oasaal2001.

I like the new trees, and the grass isn't bad.

I would like you to keep the old buildings though. I think that would be better.

All the tiles will be remade, but don't worry, houses won't change THAT much. I'm hoping to at least fix them up so they tile properly, and possibly just make them look a little better.

Any other ideas or suggestions for this revision? Characters are going to require a ton of gfx so if anybody has a character they liked in particular, you need to let me know so I can make it. I'm not going to be able to make enough clothing and stuff to match every old graal head but I'll do as much as I can. Once I have some templates done I will post them so people can make their own clothing gfx and submit them.

Your comments are entirely unnecessary. Explain how it looks like Oasis. In fact, get a screenshot of Oasis and point out the similarities. Please. They are two totally different servers. If they weren't, I wouldn't be trying to complete both of them. I don't know what you have against me, other than the fact that you think I will fail, but it's really stupid in my opinion.

Right. I'm not going to restructure the buildings or anything. I can only do so much to the building tiles as they were used differently throughout 2k1. As far as the hit system... The old hit system can't be used, as far as I know. not with new movement... But if it can, and it's not a security problem then I will use it. Otherwise a scripted version will be made, to match the default as best as it can. Good pking and fighting is a top priority for me on this project.

But when it comes down to it... I dont care as long as it's 2k1 and it has kingdoms.
Yeah, graphics don't entirely make a game, but they help to attract people and keep things interesting. These tiles are still 16x16 lol... and they aren't being changed that much, just enough for a facelift. The entire reasoning behind new graphics is to match the new bodies, and to give the server a new feel. Classic tileset servers have gotten pretty tiresome to look at. I want people to be attracted by the graphics, and then stay because of the gameplay and content.

How are they? as an olde player of Graal2001 I'd like to see what **** you come up with.

Okay, a tileset. Now if you're planning to revive Graal2001 why not revive it instead of making it new. Didn't you have some jobs what didn't keep you pressing the buttons on Oasis or something?

You are right on one thing, I believe you will fail even if it gets online. Thats my opinion.

I'm glad I got that as a Christmas gift. Pokémon Snap was interesting for about four hours. Seriously, the game lasted about four hours.

This sounds like the best thing coming to graal.

I remember the same things as most people.

My Desires
1. Apple farming must stay the same.
2. The new tiles look nice, good to be different.
3. I think bomies could remain, even without accessories. (who cares)
4. Bomy pets were fine the way they were, item holding sounds good though, but what advantage does it offer over keeping it on yourself.
5. Old bodies (Classic Style not GK wannabe)
6. Keep UGLake it rocked hard, tweak it though.
7. Remove the hundreds of playerhouses that were added late in the life of 2k1 (Post the 4 kingdoms)
8. Keep the rcs to a minimum
9. Skills if used should be a YinYang Style (Not 2 sided though)
...
The 2 Scales might look like

Gathering Skills (for lack of a better word)
Mining - Farming - Hunting (Fish, Other huntable animals?)
EG. Default 2 - 2 - 2 (1 spare)

Producing Skills (as above)
Crafting - Baking - Cooking
Default 2 - 2 - 2 (1 spare)

A miner would naturally go for
Tree 1: 5 - 1 - 1 (Assuming 1 is minimum)
Tree 2: 5 - 1 - 1

However someone who likes Baking and Fishing could go with
Tree 1: 1 - 3 - 3
Tree 2: 1 - 3 - 3

I'm trying to keep it simple so its understandable, but This would work in if you did things that used multiple jobs eg a Pizza would use
Gathering Skills Farming and Hunting (Vegetables and Meat) and producing Skills Cooking and Baking (Base, and Meats.. i dunno)

but you get the idea... I hope.

So one could Excel in one or do well in all.. or specialise in certain cross job stuff.

Obviously you'd have more than 3 jobs but each job would use 1 of the 3 skills. But all jobs are doable, lets say a 15% to 30% bonus for ALL points in 1. (5% or 10% each if split 3 ways, thats in gralats for sale and speed and ease of creation mind you)

Hmmm the skill thing seems interesting but there are a few concerns...

1. people would have multiple accounts and each account would have a different maxed out skill, so setting up skills this way would be pointless as everyone would have all skills maxed out, technically.

2. where would the other jobs fit in? (cow milking, snowcone making, etc)

3. It would kind of suck to be forced to do one job only. the fun of 2k1 is being able to do different jobs when you get tired of one.

4. the new ideas I came up with for jobs would already increase the speed/profit of jobs. here, I will post what I've come up with so far:

Mining
Basically everything would be the same. You buy TNT, you blow rocks from the wall... However instead of hitting the rock with your pick directly, you'd do it through a small interface. There would be a vertical bar on the screen, with a target on the bar. A pick axe icon would travel up and down the bar, and you would have to press D (or S or whatever) to "swing" the pick axe and try to hit that target. The speed of the axe icon changes with each swing to prevent macroing. If you miss the target, you do a normal hit to the rock. If you hit the target, you do a stronger hit to the rock. Meaning if you're good at hitting the target, you will break rocks faster. The different picks could also affect this minigame thing in some way. It's still tapping a button but at least something else is thrown in. Suggestions?

Crafting
Crafting the rocks into gems/minerals would be sort of like the mining thing, except it would be a circle instead of a vertical bar. Icons representing keyboard keys would appear on the circle, and the hammer would travel around the circle. You would have to hit the right key as the hammer passes over the icon for it. It would look interesting in the game as your character would hammer along with your key presses, so it wouldn't be a constant hammering, it would be sporadic. (this idea is basically ripped from Britney's Dance Beat, among other things... so I can't really claim it as my own or anything. haha) Thoughts?

Fishing
Fishing will change in that you won't see fish in the water clear a day. They will appear as shadows. There would also be 4 sizes of fish (along with 4 sizes of shadow). You cast your line out near the shadows and try to get a bite. Fishing would basically work the same (unless anyone can think of any new ideas), except when you reel, the fish would tug back, and if you don't stop reeling, your line could break. To fix this, there would be a variety of rods you could obtain. They would have 3 attributes: Reel, Cast, Strength. Reel would determine how easy it is to reel the fish. Cast would determine how far you could cast. Strength would determine how well it would stand up against a struggling fish, as the weaker rods wouldn't even be able to catch the largest of fish without a lot of difficulty. Thoughts?

Apple Farming
There will probably be a few new farming options as far as fruit and stuff goes, but for apple farming specifically, there would be few changes. I was thinking there could possibly be different water cans you could obtain though. Such as a Durby watering can that can water 6 times instead of 3, and a Gold watering can that can water 3 times but multiplied by 2, for faster watering. I was also thinking that maybe to mix things up, a bug could appear at random on your tree, and you have to swing your sword and kill it, or else you will receive less apples. Of course to make up for the annoying bug, you would recieve more apples than before. Ideas?

As far as other farming is concerned... There could be tomato farming (for items like tomato juice), lemon farming (for lemon pies, lemonade, etc), orange farming (for orange juice... you get the idea). If I remove healing in beds/with pots, then you'll have to heal with foods, so it would be nice to have more choices.

There's another job that I have planned for Oasis that would also be fun to see on this server, but I'll keep that a secret for now.

{POST}
I like all of the ideas.

In reference to the farming, I think that the different vegetables and fruits should offer different supplements.

e.g.
(I forgot if we were using HP or hearts; sorry.)

Apple - 35 HP
Watermelon - (+2 HP/SEC) = 30 SEC
Lemon - Faster movement

Baking and cooking would add even more.

The idea of cash crops would be nice, but I cannot think of any way to make a crop simply as a cash crop. It would need some use to someone along the line of production.

Clearly if it failed with the old content then common sense would tell you it needs new stuff. A new tileset is one of the things that Koni feels should change. I agree with him.

Tileset and the beginning stages of the character look amazing. Koni, you single handedly have revived my interest in Graal simply because of this project.

Because doing everything from scratch defeats the purpose of "revision". It's no longer 2k1 if you don't use the old content in some way. The original server didn't fail, the old revision failed because it lacked anything new and things just seemed to get worse. I don't really feel like turning this into a "change wan's mind" thread. You're entitled to your opinion, I just wish you wouldn't sling out such negative comments with little to back them up.

Someone brought up a good example of what a revision basically is. If you look at Pokemon Red for the gameboy, it's a far cry from "Pokemon Fire Red" for the gameboy advance. They revised all the graphics and stuff, but the levels are mostly the same. They improved on some npc characters, I think they added the new pokemon and some new areas? (unsure) But still, it's basically the original with all new graphics and some new stuff thrown in. It's selling like hotcakes though.

Updates (As many as I can remember):
  • Improved Graphics
  • Addition of breeding and shiny creatures
  • Nine new islands
  • Access to the Gold and Silver creatures
  • Same evolution formulas from Ruby and Sapphire

I know this probably wasn't necessary, but for the sake of completion.

As you can see from my avatar, I've started playing around with new bomy sprites, starting with the Naifets bomy. I've given them more angle and shading, as well as a smoother transition from idle to hiding. (as seen in the animation)

For a comparison of the old naifets and new, here is an animation:

I had an interesting chat about bomies today and have learned some things about them that I didn't know before. Anyway, for bomies I plan to take a more planned out approach. The bomies will remain black, there will no longer be strange colored bomies. The shells will stay consistent in size and basic shape, bomies will basically have default characteristics and more restraint on what qualifies as a bomy. The bomies I have chosen so far for the revision are:

Alma
Ambient
Barmy
Birce
Blort
Brado
Draktha
Fossilio
Golg
Herm
Kagon
Kawie
Kever
Khyle
Naifets
Nephi
Nero
Nex
Pirat
Scale
Shroomy
Viso
Waiko
Xen

So 24 in total... quite a bit of work but they will get done throughout the revision development. :P Of course, this is mainly just the outer shell. The body, shell and feet will all be seperated in the gani now. You will be able to mix and match the shell, body, and shoes on your bomy pet.

Yeah, but then a completely new tileset also beats it. You won't be able to change my mind with that tileset

Lance manages 2K1.
Konidias manages a 'remake' version of 2K1.

Ha, that is fine. I just don't think ideas should only come from people who
have been playing since the very beginning, that's all.
