Still wondering...

Why is Graal at a stand still? I'm still oblivious to why nothing is happening, while everyone seems so eager to develop gun servers and release new versions, I'd say 75% of Graal just wants a new server or a server to be released again. Plain and simple, Graal hasn't had anything new and forever, and it's just down right boring now. Rudora, Doomsday, Babylon - all 3 of them were on the list before, and they were fine. Why were they removed? Lack of management? Doesn't Graal legally own anything on their server? If the current staff of these servers cannot get things together, give them to people who can. N-Pulse gets a good 60 people a day, and all it really is is a spar and an events house. I'm pretty sure Babylon, Doomsday, and Rudora all have those two things, right? It's not as if releasing a new server is going to cause people to quit Graal... Let's do something, come on. Keep postponing these kind of things and you might not have many more chances...

For Doomsday:

We do have those two things, but were trying to make it so that people don't just hang out at an events house or sparring arena. We only lack a good scripter to script together everything our forums have written up. Otherwise we could probably go classic tab as a normal server - but we don't want it to die off like Enigma did. This is why we havn't asked to be inspected yet.

If the person bought the playerworld, the levels/gfx/npcs etc are his/hers if they want their server to improve, they'll work on it, or the owners will change the satff around. Either way, its up to those who onw the servers to decide where their server will go.

Shaded Legend:

We are currently adding a new LARGE quest which will increase the max hearts and increase the level sword to level 3. We also plan to add a new guild system for players, and if that doesnt go through then I'll have the Public Relations staff handle the guild updating. I would like SL to lean a lot more to guild and spars. We have many other things on the back burners but first we are out to release these few things. The release date for this is Decemeber 1st. Shaded Legend also just went GS2, so we are having to alter many scripts. The majority is taken care of, but we still have a few bugs we're trying to fix. Expect to see many more updates for SL as well. The staff here is very friendly and out to play players. Shaded Legend really needed a lot of organisation, which is something I have largely focused on. Keep your eyes open for SL's come back...

Release all the old servers, make them offical. People will tryout for a job there, assign a member of the PWA to a server.

Graal's a dudd right now.

ShadedLegend: I can't wait.
Babylon: Good luck Odin, try to re-hire Inferno if he isn't staff already. I think he'd love to work there.
Versus: We are getting there...

The reason spar/PK/event servers do well is because, basically, that's all graal is good for.

Everyone can develop until they are blue in the face, but in the end even the most amazingly scripted server with tons of things to do will pale in comparison to the tons of free and P2P MMORPGS available today.

Graal is a simplistic game that appeals to people with simple expectations, for the most part.

What do people do on UN? Spar, PK, Chat, Events.

N-Pulse? Spar, PK, Chat, Events.

Zone? Spar, PK, Chat, Events.

Era? Spar, PK, Chat, Events.

Babylon? Spar, PK, Chat, Events.

With the exception of Valk, which was role playing, those 4 elements have defined every sucsessful server.

Any form of PvE (Player VS Monster) system will fail, due to the limits of being able to script a functional AI.

Any sort of guild war system will fail, due to a low player count. What's the fun in guild wars if there are 2-3 guilds with 7 people each on the entire server?

I'm not looking forward to any servers, because they will all be the same damn thing, even if it wasnt the intention of the creators for them to be so.

I agree, but people just won't listen. They want to make a server with all these cool ideas and that.

The only server in development that I've seen that'd appeal to the players would be Versus

Complaining? I was posing a series of question in order to see where people think those who manage Graal are going with the current slowness it seems to possess. If we're going to turn this into a thread of off-topic questions, why are you even PWA? Let's end it there.

If you guys think I'm arguing over the abundance of spar/PK servers, that's not it at all - that's what Graal is. I'm looking for a classic server that has substance - sure, spar, PK, and events will probably dominate, but why can't it be in a clean, balanced environment? As an example, UN is basically all events, N-Pulse is mostly spar. I thought Cynical was very good, the levels were beautiful, but not overdetailed and cluttered. It has a complete overworld, good quests, and 80% of the server wasn't centered at one place. I'm just looking for a server that doesn't leave people bored, and the release of a new server, basically any server, can provide at least a couple months of that.

The Party/Gang system on Era seems to be quite successful though, half of the people are wearing a tag

I think the big problem is the fact that it's so easy to get your own playerworld. New players are just shelling out $100 to run their own playerworld, and they have no idea what they're doing. How many in-dev PWs are there? How many actually look promising? If it wasn't so easy to get a PW then people would be forced to work together rather than on their own projects... This way the new players would learn from the more experienced players and have better development skills.

I don't see the way playerworlds are bought changing any time soon though... It is making GO money after all. They're sort of shooting themselves in the foot if you ask me though.

It works on Era for two reasons.

1) You're forced to be in one of the gangs. You can not create your own guild.
2) Era has a "large" player base.

If someone was to create a new server with guild based content, it would most likely be a total waste, as there would be too few players to make a good use of it.

I also agree that with all the player worlds out there, and the ability to make your own, developers are far too spread out. 1/20 worlds will make it to hosted, most likely, and out of those, maybe 1/8 makes it classic ever. So what we basically have is a large amount of wasted time and content.

I honestly have no idea if Stefan wants this game to remain, or if he is just riding it out until its end.

The community is dying. What's being done about it? Well, trials are being "limited" to make it smaller.

Global staff seems at best disinterested in their jobs. While Malinko is probably using his position to draw attention to his own criteria, at least he is also in some effect doing his job, or so I think.

This is no longer the year 2000. Graal is not one of a few MMOs out there, it is one of many.

The player base no longer supports mass development, tons of new player worlds, or anything of the such. Even if you complete a great world, you'd be lucky to draw 30-40 players at peak time.

The ONLY way anything will happen on this game is if fully functional free accounts were enabled again. This will never occur.

That's why there are 100 worlds and no new ones on the tabs. No one to develop them, no one to play them.

When was the last time you logged on Era and stayed on for more than 10 minutes? The party system allows you to create your own party. say "/party help"

That's a good point. You are also right in saying that it will never occur (unless Graal can find a way to make money without charging for accounts ).

Even to just pay once and thats it, instead of re-upgradeing all the time. I'm sure new people would be playing.

Everybody is all like:

The levels were sooo purty.

When in fact, levels are just like the graphics we see in today's games. They don't mean anything. It can still very easily be a terrible server. And also, terrible servers happen when alot of thought is put in and Graal's engine is overextended.

Sadly, Graal is not designed to be a roleplaying game. It is not impossible to make a roleplaying server, but it will not be taking advantage of Graal's features.

Graal used to be add-based before it was p2p. Every pm box would have an add. Unfortunately for Cyberjoueur, all the adds were French companies (I remember something about them being adult-themed??) written only in French and so only a very small percentage of players knew what the ads were about and bothered clicking them.

If Graal could get big sponsors like Pepsi, yeah, I'm sure they'd be able to make a profit from the business, perhaps even by a higher profit margin than they're doing now, as the game would be free to players (attracting many many players to see the ads). I don't think it's an option Cyberjoueur is willing to risk trying though.

It may not be my place to ask this as im not really a staff on the server, but as a future and past player of it and out of curiousity id like to see what you all say. Doomsday has come to a bit of a crossroads. Should DD find a scripter (we are in need of one by the way) and finish the work on an exp system, class system, etc or should DD be released as a purely classic server essentially how it was with some new, simple, old school graal features. What do you guys think?
