Graal3D And Graal3

Are there any SOLID deadlines to when either will be ready for release?

Alot of speculation has been thrown around but we have had no feedback from unixmad or stefan. Any thoughts guys?

I would like to know what kind of engine they're using for Graal3D... Is it made from scratch? @_@;

Apparently it is based on the "torque" engine. Although extensive edits and recoding has been done by stefan.

As Robin already mentioned it is based on the Torque engine, as seen in Tribes.

The 3d engine and new scripting engine are in pre alpha testing, it mean only the Cyberjoueurs Staff have access to the server.

Next step is to start the alpha testing and have a few other Graal staff (non Cyberjoueurs) access the server and help us correct the biggest problems.

I will not give a timeline right now but we plan to open the 3d engine to playerworld creators that are interested to work in 3D and also release a demo world as template.

For all other player we are working on a nice 3d project (nothing to do with the screenshots we have released last year), it's really based on the Graal style and also take a lot from what have made the success of graal.

it's very hard to give a timeline but we will probably be able to show screenshots in February and release something before April.

For the technology we have used part of torque but we have rewritten lot of code and we are also not using torque script but the new graal scripting language.

Saying that Graal3d is torque is like saying that most games are renderware engine, torque is a nice middleware but nothing without lot of work and rewriting.

We are mostly using torque because it saves us lot of testing for all the 3d card on the market. Compatibility is the most difficult task when you make a 3d engine.

The sad thing is I got VIP to test features and stuff and my VIP will probably run out before I even get to do anything :/ (Besides the v3 preview which still lacks playerlist organization which draws me away from it x.x)

Vip will have access to the beta testing of all new products including graal 3d !

So the answer is yes, you will have access months before Gold and Classic.

Indeed. I wonder if stefan used an precoded engine for that really really really old graal3d like the thing he has in his sig, or wether he did that from scratch

I can't want for 3D level making ... It's gunna get more difficult for graphics artists... Textures are HARD to make... And a new development area will be added... Meshing.

I've been making some things with Morrowind's editor... I'm still getting the hang of it. ;O It's fun!

I can't wait.

For the projects to be released.

((Unixmad, will there be a paperdolling system? Armor/Weapons etc, and will there be other views other than 1st person view, 3rd person is my favorite, very easy to look and move around with ))

There are some screenshots of it on GraalOnline.com I believe one of them is in 3rd person. I don't know how recent they are though.

And who does a guy have to buy lattés for to get to alpha test the Level editor? :P

Graal 3D beta 2 was from scratch, Graal 3D beta 3 used Gear3D or something (I really don't remember but there was a startup logo for it).

Graal 3.x and Graal 3D (new) are using a heavily modified version of the Torque Game Engine.

I cant wait either. I've gotten used to one 3D modeling program so I hope that helps on Graal3D. I'm pretty sure they will have some "basic" textures and such we can use when we make levels. :3! Seeing graal in 3D is like a dream come true XD!

Its much easier to make gfx. Texturing isnt too hard, and you dont have to worry about anything else since 3D design is fun, and you wont have to worry about shading because the engine will shade it for you.

Correct me if im wrong but..
When you make "textures", dont you just make a small square that has all it's corners fit so it can be repetitive? I believe you just slap the texture on the 3D shape and boom, done.

Question:
What's the camera perspective going to be? Or can you toggle it or something?

But you've gotta make sure that the texture stretches around the wire model nicely, so that nothing is out of proportion, or in the wrong spot or something...

cell shading is still too primitive.

when a better cell shading comes available, imm sure i wont get so sick to my stomach looking at it.

For example, simpsons wrestling on PSX uses cell shading, and its nasty. XIII uses cell shading, and it looks aweful.

And i doubt the torque engine could handle it without alot of heavy modifications by stefan, and id rather have a nice graal3d than a gruesome POS with cell shading.

bha! you think that! I love the game anyways =P
without a poll or with an =P

the torque engine has 3DStudio Max plug-ins. You can maybe make the models and items and other objects there and add cellshading on them in 3DStudio Max or something.. i donno =/
