A very large number of people claim to have lost their mothers when faced with jokes about them. Now, I can't say whether this is true or false, but statistical consideration would suggest that a reasonable percentage of the people who make this claim are actually lying. Why would you lie? Same reason all these liars do: Because it'd give you an easy way out of the insult and let you put shame on him for using it. Though please note that this explanation has been written without any hint of my opinion on the subject of whether or not you're lying.
