Better:
Effects - Turn the water tiles into blood, put a misty dark over glow.
Event - Make a pumpkin patch gmap (2x2 or something) and have it open with a warp, it will be PKable and people dig for the pumpkins.

My point was not to waste time and energy (eg. all of the scripting and graphics involved in all of your suggestions) and instead get on with development so it can hopefully be completed before the second coming.
