I'm making one final attempt at a good one. After that, I might play around and make like some fun things. Any other ideas from the last one that could be improved? (About the symmetry part, I see what you're saying about the squares in the top corners, however the other columns being so even was to make the template more versatile, so pictures, quotes, text, articles could be added freely rather than just straight 1-per-column).

Lots of things made on Era were never released but leaked anyways. Seriously, I left Era like along time ago when the only rare hats were the nolands I suggested Frankie to put in the shop. I don't even know how all how all these players have these rare hats.

They had a bunch of rare hats auctioned off, if you were around you would have heard that.

about 2 years ago, if you made a hat you were able to get it uploaded and have a few of them spawned for you.

after rare hats stopped getting uploaded, staff would always spawn them for friends. nobody really cared because they were just hats. I gave out a bunch of different hats when I was feeling generous.

What I don't get is why does staff get to choose? I haven't read vimes post in awhile,but doesn't it say "maybe era news staff will get to choose" or something like that?

Right now there really is no Era News, except for nataxo, and we'll ask her opinion as well.

There are only a few people in EN as far as I know, and they aren't really involved with it now.

Scary sock you aren't involved with era news. Plua vimes there isn't anything we can do,and when en comes back its our decision not staffs,you guys make to many decisions at a lot of the players don't like. Era news is ours not yours.

I don't expect the Era News staff to do anything. I understand the situation you're in.

However, having not done anything for a long time, I don't think you are involved with Era News enough to be given a huge say in the decision.

Keep in mind that we're not stupid. We'll pick the best one. The whole reason we asked players rather than using the old one or the one I designed was to hopefully create a better Era News.

Nataxo will probably be involved in the decision, and I'm sure she'll represent your interests for you, and we will be keeping them in mind as well. Era is not a democracy, and sometimes staff have to make unpopular decisions; this will not be one of them, however, I guarantee you.

In theory letting staff choose rather than the players will hopefully result in a more unbiased decision. Less "let's pick this because this is my friend" and more "this is the best design, let's pick this."

And let's face it, there's a much better chance that those on staff have stronger grasp on the principles and elements of design. Then again, maybe not. But as I look at who the people are whining and complaining about not being able to help pick - I think it's a safe assumption.

text can be easily changed. It just looked cool that way on my computer. The text color would be whatever Chris chooses in his scripting to look nice.

Yeah, but you're presenting this in a competition so it needs to look good in your concept.

I'm going to have to disagree, I think adding the fourth column was a bad idea. Now there's next to no negative space, and everything feels quite boring and cramped. Once again, utility and design can work hand in hand. One needn't be sacrificed for the other.

The two photo boxes are placed predictably, and do nothing to break the horrible monotony within the columns. I'm sure you'll say "they can move them around if they want", but since this is just conceptual you might as well attempt to use the photo boxes to break up the complete symmetry going on. Just having one higher and one lower would add a bit of visual interest and keep the eye moving around the articles more.

The text doesn't do much for me, either. Obviously the fact that it's nearly unreadable is an obvious flaw, but I'm talking more about the way it's employed within the colummns. Text also can be used to create good negative/positive space, but you're not doing that. You've got some decent spacing on the text from the column borders in the two columns with pictures, but the other two it completely fills the column. I think at least a small space at the top and bottom of each column would help it visually.

Yes, you've given them more space for articles. But from a design standpoint, I feel like we've taken a few steps backward.
